1. How and where does BPHC chemicals go, a journey. (ENVIRONMEN)

List chemicals disposed from the departments of chemical, chemistry, pharmacy, biological
sciences and civil engineering and from hostels, faculty and staff housing.

List out the materials safety data sheet and highlight the health and environmental concerns.

Monitor, track and document the usage, the protocols and practices of disposal (biohazard
waste and others), the implementation of the same, interview technicians, students and
researchers about the practices, misinformation, confusion, awareness and the difficulties of the
disposal of these chemicals.

Track the disposal from BITS to outside agency, speak and interview the agency workers and
track the journey further and document it to its final disposal point. Is there pyrolysis involved, is
it controlled or is it buried under ground.

2. How and where does BPHC municipal waste go, a journey. (THE EAGLES)
List municipal waste disposed from the academic and administrative departments, hostels and
faculty and staff housing and other areas in the campus.

List out the waste and categorize them according to certain relevant criteria and come up with
quantification and highlight the health and environmental concerns.

Monitor, track and document the waste, the protocols and practices of disposal (biohazard
waste and others), the implementation of the same, interview institute maids and other
workers, students, researchers, staff and faculty about the practices, misinformation, confusion,
awareness and the difficulties of the disposal of the waste.

Track the disposal from BITS to outside agency, speak and interview the agency workers and
track the journey further and document it to its final disposal point. Is there segregation
involved prior to disposal, check for similar issues.

3. Evidential documentation of environmental concerns at BPHC. (KHATTEY NEEMBU)

Scour the entire campus for environmental safety and quality and document the same (fungal
growth in moist and hot environs in rooms/labs, water leaks, water and power wastage, food
decay, flies/insects/pests, food quality, lifestyle, dust, use of cleaning chemicals, clothes
washing, sewage and sanitation, hygiene, cleanliness etc. etc.)

Identify the concerns and worries and document the same.

Check and document the status of the concerns (authorities awareness, should be made aware,
actions taken, no action taken etc. etc.).

On the same concerns, check the status of awareness among the BPHC residents and interview
and document.

4. How does a landfill site function, a study. (THE WIND SURFERS)

Start with the Jawahar Nagar landfill, close to BPHC, monitor and document the ingredients,
practices, quantity, contributors etc. etc.

Monitor and document the segregation practices and protocols, technology or the lack of it.

Monitor and document the treatment practices and protocols, the concerns.

Monitor and document the efficiency, apathy, violations etc. etc.

Interview all the stakeholders as much as possible and gain insights.

After a thorough study and investigation, provide some suggestions and remedies.

5. Water and electricity saga at BPHC. (GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK)


Meet the supply or the source, interview about reliability, the means, costs, backup etc., causes
for potential shutdown.

Monitor and document the flow chart, the journey, pipelines and electric lines involved, the
hardware and corresponding safety and personnel, interview the same, how is 24/7 managed,
water and power management.

Monitor and document, usage-users-quantities, waste, pollution, dangers/hazards etc. interview
the users.

Conservation and treatment and harvesting of water and electric utilities, monitor and
document.

The outlet journey for water, monitor and document and that includes pipeline and the

Start with Shamirpet lake, close to BPHC, monitor and document the ecosystem, habitat,
components, habits and characteristics and lifestyle, both flora and fauna, both biotic and
abiotic, humanity etc. etc.

Monitor and document the good and poor environmental practices and protocols in the lake
area.

Monitor and document the violations, concerns, apathy etc. etc.

Interview all the stakeholders as much as possible and gain insights.

After a thorough study and investigation, provide some suggestions and remedies.

7. Ecosystem of BPHC and its surroundings, a study. (GREENDEHL)

Start with BPHC followed by immediate surroundings, monitor and document the ecosystem,
habitat, components, habits and characteristics and lifestyle, both flora and fauna, biotic and
abiotic, humanity etc. etc.

Monitor and document the good and poor environmental practices and protocols in the lake
area.

Monitor and document the violations, concerns, apathy etc. etc.

Interview all the stakeholders as much as possible and gain insights.

After a thorough study and investigation, provide some suggestions and remedies.

12. Governmental policies towards environment and the concerned agencies (local to campus and

The good, bad and ugly of the policies have to be documented and presented.

paraphernalia, relevant seeds or seedlings of plants/flowers/fruits, natural manure and
fertilizers etc.

Create the organic garden (soil, pots, manure etc.) and start the seeding or planting.

Take care and maintain the garden, monitor and document the evolution of the garden during
the course of the project.

Visit organic garden locations and interview stakeholders and discuss relevant issues and gain
insights and share the same later.

When submitting or presenting the project, label the plants/fruits/flowers and also make a
display chart of the manures and fertilizers used with information about composition and
amounts and the practices followed.

14. Create a balanced ecosystem. (THE 555s)

Study the nuts and bolts (components) of a balanced ecosystem (aquarium for example), plan
and organize location, paraphernalia, relevant abiotic and biotic components etc.

Create the balanced ecosystem. For aquarium, sand, rocks, water, aquatic plants, top open and
detachable tank, fish etc. is required.

Monitor, document the ecosystem balance during the course of the project.

For your project display, describe the abiotic (nonliving) factors present. Explain why the living
and nonliving elements are needed in the aquarium. Give reasons for selecting the organisms or
type of fish and the plants. Explain what relationship the fish have with each other and the
plants- are they prey-predator? Show where they are in the food chain. Note their life cycle.
Describe their adaptations and interactions with each other and the environment.

15. Air pollution, a study. (THE NATURISTS)

Conduct literature study on air pollution worldwide and document.

Dig for causes and sources of air pollution and document, both online and hands-on digging.

Document evidences (audio and video) of air pollution and conduct a study on the psychology of
air pollution, conduct field study in campus locations (characterize air quality and collect
pollutants and quantify), further compile experiences from team members, friends and family.

Interview stakeholders and discuss sources, causes, consequences, remedies to alleviate the
issue etc. etc. Conduct and document visits to relevant locations.

Conduct experiments with hard water, water with dyes, electrolytes etc. Characterize before
and after passing through the activated carbon bed.

Study the nuts and bolts (components) of value added products from biomaterials, plan and
organize product development experiments, lab location, paraphernalia etc.

Collect biomaterials accordingly, from labs, D220 and other locations at BPHC.

Conduct product development.

Characterize the product for relevant properties and demonstrate the material to processing to
product sequence.

When submitting or presenting the project, describe the documented experiments and submit
the products and demonstrate its capabilities.

20. Create a composting system from food waste. (NATURE KNIGHTS)

Study the nuts and bolts (components) of composting system, plan and organize locations,
paraphernalia etc.

Design the composting system with inlet of waste, type of waste, storage, composting method
and collecting the products.

Find applications for the product and demonstrate the effectiveness of the same.

Visit soil analysis locations, take a tour and interview stakeholders and discuss relevant issues
and gain insights and share the same later.

When submitting or presenting the project, describe the documented experiments and submit
the nine yards of composting work conducted, results and analysis and discussion and summary.

21. Create a solar cooker (renewable energy). (THE FLAMINGOES)
