BRIEF INTRODUCTION:

A circuit is the path an electric current travels on, and a simple circuit
contains three components necessary to have a functioning electric circuit,
namely, a source of voltage, a conductive path, and a load.

Types of circuit connections


In electronics, there are three main types of circuit connections. When
there are two or more electrical devices present in a circuit with an energy
source, there are a couple of basic means by which to connect them. They can
be connected in series or connected in parallel, but there are some situations
that the circuit is connected in the combination of both series and parallel.
Series Connection
In series connection the circuit are connected in such a way that an
individual charge would pass through each load consecutively. When in
series, charge passes through every load. Series connection can be compared
to a steam engine train, the first train wagon is the charge and the remaining
others are the load, when the first wagon starts to move it will pull the other
wagon and whatever the speed of the first wagon will also be the speed of
others. Relating in electronics, the amount of current in a series circuit is the
same through any component in the circuit, this is because there is only one
path for current flow in a series circuit.

The image shows an example of how a series circuit is connected, the


cell or battery is the source of voltage, and the light bulbs connected end to
end are the loads. Current flowing in the circuit is represented by the yellow
arrow.
Parallel Connection
In a parallel connection, each load is placed in its own separate branch.
The presence of branch lines means that there are multiple pathways by
which charge can pass through the external circuit. Each charge passing
through the loop of the external circuit will pass through each load present in
a single branch.

The image shows an example of how a parallel circuit is connected, the


cell or battery is the source of voltage, and the light bulbs connected in an
individual branch are the loads. Current flowing in the circuit is represented
by the yellow arrow.

Series-Parallel Connection
A series-parallel connection is a combination of both series connection
and parallel connection in one. The image below is an example of the use of
both series and parallel connections within the same circuit. In this case, the
first and second light bulb are connected in parallel and the third and fourth
light bulb are connected in series connections that can also be called as
complex circuit.

REMEMBER!

Circuit connections has three types, the two main connections are Series
Connection and Parallel Connection and the other one is a combination of
both Series and Parallel called Series-Parallel Connection or Complex
Connection.
