The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors a coolant level sensor to determine the coolant level. The coolant
level sensor is installed by the vehicle manufacturer. The coolant level sensor is one of the following types:
4-Pin Sensor
2 Wire Float
2-Pin Switch
The "Coolant Level Sensor" parameter must be programmed to match the type of sensor in order for the
monitoring system to function correctly. The following tables describe each sensor.
Table 1
Operation of the 4-Pin Sensor
This sensor has two output terminals. The voltage on the terminals indicates the coolant level.

C. Verify that a code for the coolant level switch is active. Result: There is a 111-3 or 111-4
code. There is a problem with the
circuit for the 2-wire float sensor.
D. Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch
points from the sensor to the ECM.
3. Disconnect the Coolant Level Sensor and Check the Supply Result: The measured voltage is

B. Disconnect the coolant level sensor from the harness. Result: The measured voltage is
NOT OK.
C. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the harness
connector from terminal C to terminal B. Proceed to Test Step 5
