⇒400=2n(50)
⇒400=n(25)
⇒n=16
Since,
l=a+(n−1)d
⇒45=5+(16−1)d
⇒45−5=(15)d
⇒40=15d
⇒d=1540
⇒d=38
15. a) Determine the AP whose third term is 16 and the 7th term exceeds the 5th term by 12. 3
Answer:-
Let a be the First term, a3 be the third term, a5 be the 5th term and a7 be the 7th term
We know, an=a+(n−1)d
⇒ a3=16 [ Given ]
⇒ a+(3−1)d=16
⇒ a+2d=16 ....... (1)
⇒ Now, a7−a5=12 [ Given ]
⇒ [a+(7−1)d]−[a+(5−1)d]=12
⇒ 2d=12
∴ d=6
From equation (1), we get
a+2(6)=16
a+12=16
∴ a=4
So first term is 4
We can find AP by adding d continuously.
∴ Required AP is 4,10,16,22,28,34,40,......

(or)
b) Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
Since ABCD is a parallelogram circumscribed in a circle
AB=CD........(1)
BC=AD........(2)
DR=DS (Tangents on the circle from same point D)
CR=CQ(Tangent on the circle from same point C)
BP=BQ (Tangent on the circle from same point B )
AP=AS (Tangents on the circle from same point A)
Adding all these equations we get
DR+CR+BP+AP=DS+CQ+BQ+AS
(DR+CR)+(BP+AP)=(CQ+BQ)+(DS+AS)
CD+AB=AD+BC
Putting the value of equation 1 and 2 in the above equation we get
2AB=2BC
AB=BC...........(3)
From equation (1), (2) and (3) we get
AB=BC=CD=DA
∴ABCD is a Rhombus

f X 5 9 12 Y 3 2 40
Median=32.5, then 30−40 is class interval.
⇒ l=30,cf=14+f1,f=12 and h=40−30=10.
⇒ N=40,2N=20
⇒ 31+f1+f2=40.
⇒ Then, f1+f2=9 ----- ( 1 )
⇒ Median=l+ (N/2−cf)/f ×h
⇒ 32.5=30+1220−(14+x)×10
⇒ 2.5=66−x×5

⇒ 15=30−5x
⇒ 5x=15
∴ x=3
Substituting value in equation ( 1 ) we get,
⇒ 3+y=9
∴ y=6
∴ x=3, y=6
17. Two tangents TP and TQ are drawn to a circle with centre O from an external point T.
Prove that ∠ PTQ = 2 ∠ OPQ.

TP=TQ−−−(1) 3
4∴ ∠TQP=∠TPQ (angles of equal sides are equal)−−−(2)
Now, PT is tangent and OP is radius.
∴ OP⊥TP (Tangent at any point of circle is perpendicular to the radius through point of contact)
In △PTQ∠TPQ+∠PQT+∠QTP=180o (∴ Sum of angles triangle
is 180o)or, 90−∠OPQ+∠TPQ+∠QTP=180or, 2(90−∠OPQ)+∠QTP=180 [from (2) and (3)]or,
180o−2∠OPQ+∠PTQ=180∴ 2∠OPQ=∠PTQ−−−− proved

21. Draw a circle of radius 3 cm. Take two points P and Q on one of its extended diameter
each at a distance of 7 cm from its centre. Draw tangents to the circle from these two points
P and Q.

22. a) If the mth term of an AP be 1/n & its nth term be 1/m then show that its (mn)th terms is 1 4
given that, mth term=1/n and nth term=1/m.
then ,let a and d be the first term and the common difference of the A.P.
so a+(m-1)d=1/n...........(1) and a+(n-1)d=1/m...........(2).
subtracting equation (1) by (2) we get,
md-d-nd+d=1/n-1/m
=>d(m-n)=m-n/mn
=>d=1/mn.
again if we put this value in equation (1) or (2) we get, a=1/mn.
then, let A be the mnth term of the AP
a+(mn-1)d=1/mn+1+(-1/mn)=1
hence proved
(OR)
b) The tenth term of an A.P., is −37 and the sum of its first six terms is −27. Find the sum

23. a) In Fig., XY & X′Y′ are two parallel tangents to a circle with centre O & another tangent 4
AB with point of contact C intersecting XY at A & X′Y′ at B. Prove that ∠ AOB = 90°.

Let us join point O to C

In ΔOPAandΔOCA
OP=OC (Radii of the same circle)
AP=AC (Tangent from point A)
AO=AO (Common side)
ΔOPA≅ΔOCA (SSS congruence criterion)
Therefore, P↔C,A↔A,O↔O
∠POA=∠COA.........(1)
Similarly,
∠QOB≅∠OCB
∠QOB=∠COB.........(2)
Since, POQ is a diameter of the circle, it is a straight line.
Therefore, ∠POA+∠COA+∠COB+∠QOB=180∘
So, from equation (1) and equation (2)
2∠COA+2∠COB=180∘∠COA+∠COB=90∘∠AOB=90∘

b) Find the roots of the quadratic equations (where the variable x is not equal to -4 and 7)

(x+4)(x−7)=−30
⇒x2−7x+4x−28+30=0
⇒x2−3x+2=0
⇒x2−2x−x+2=0
⇒x(x−2)−(x−2)=0
⇒(x−2)(x−1)=0
Thus,(x−2)=0 or (x−1)=0
⇒x=2 or x=1
Thus, the roots are 2 and 1.
