Introduction To Rasberry Pi
Introduction To Rasberry Pi
Introduction to Raspberry Pi is a topic from unit-3 from our syllabus. In unit-3 we have 4 topics,
Introduction to python programming, introduction to Raspberry pi, Interfacing Raspberry pi with
basic peripherals, Implementation of IOT with Raspberry pi.
I would like to make use of my opportunity, in giving you all a brief introduction on Raspberry pi
today.
1. Origin of Raspberry pi
2. Main goals of Raspberry pi
3. Projects achieved
4. Raspberry pi Models
5. Applications
6. Conclusion
1. Origin of Raspberry pi
In computing history, Raspberry pi has left us a trace or a mark or sign. Can you imagine one
guy building single board computers for his entertainment to a major foundation selling over
15 million devices in the world? Yes, we can imagine how determined and how much interest
he had over the knowledge about all these computers.
Raspberry pi story started in 2006 with the creation of the first prototypes inspired from the
BBC micro.
6 years later, the first Raspberry pi was born.
So, a person named EBEN UPTON was a British engineer, who is the creator of Raspberry pi
and the Raspberry pi foundation. Eben Upton worked for 5 years from 2006 to 2011 on a
single board computer project mainly on the weekends, while working at Broadcom.
He was inspired in creating his own product called BBC micro from Acorn. So, they sold one
computer for 350 pounds in the UK. It was difficult for schools to buy enough computers for
all the students.
So, Eben Upton was looking forward to create a smaller and cheaper device.
Eben Upton recognized there was a problem in UK, where student were unable to learn
computer science courses and companies also lacked from computer professionals. So the
world needed many programmers and network engineers to continue developing internet.
Eben Upton tried to find a solution, with a goal of building a computer ten times cheaper
than the BBC micro.
So he found this device called “RASPBERRY PI”.
The word “Raspberry”, comes from fruits. As many of the companies follow the trend of
keeping the names such as APPLE, APRICOT, ACORN and many others.
The word “ pi “ is the part of reference of PYTHON .
2. Main Goals of Raspberry PI: The main goal was to release computers around $30.
3. Projects achieved:
This Raspberry Pi was used worldwide such as:
Funding a computer lab in AFGANISTHAN and SOUTH AFRICA.
Helping computer development in Africa.
Raspberry pi gifts for schools in UK, where Google offered 15000 Raspberry pi in 2015).
4. Raspberry pi Models:
There are mainly 3 models in Raspberry pi: Model-A, Model-B, Model- Zero.
Model-A:
3 versions:
Version-1, version-2 and version 3
Model A 1ST VERSION was not built first, model B was built. And there are many things that
are related to these versions.
The only important thing to remember is Model-A was cheaper and B was faster and model
zero is smaller.
5. Applications of Raspberry pi:
The internet of things is a network of physical devices, automobiles and appliances
embedded with sensors and connectivity.
Raspberry is a mini, card-sized computer capable of performing every desktop task such as
internet browsing, coding, gaming, etc.
How can IoT applications use Raspberry Pi?
With an inbuilt quadcore processor, Raspberry Pi can serve as the ‘Internet Gateway’ for IOT
devices.
Businesses can easily run and control IOT applications like smart home devices, weather
stations, agricultural designs, and more using Raspberry pi.
Blue print of implementation using Raspberry pi.
We use many of the business application for IOT using Raspberry pi such as:
Remote monitoring solutions: health care, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, surveillance, and
other industries.
Advanced animal tracking platforms.
6. Conclusion:
And that’s it guys, you well know now about Raspberry pi story. I hope I detailed this post
enough for you, without being too dense or boring. Thank you!
