9) MAINTENANCE
Our stairlifts are carefully tested in each
component,Vimec suggest a periodical inspection by
skilled staff. In order to guarantee the best operativity
and safety, the equipment must be periodically inspected
by our qualified technicians who will carry out the
following operations.
Removing connector J3 (Fig. 13/a) from the main
electrical panel automatically activates "maintenance"
mode.
In this mode, all automatic functions (self-levelling,
automatic timed descent, automatic emergency
descent) and those controlled from the floors (call) are
disabled.
Aboard the lift, apart from the emergency buttons (Stop
and alarm bell) only keys 0 and 1, allowing descent (0)
and ascent (1) along the entire travel path, with no
compulsory stop at the floors, are still active.
In maintenance mode, all the safety functions remain
active.

9.2) Cable maintenance Cables up to 80-100 metres long can be unwound on
The cables must be replaced if even just one of their the ground.
strands breaks. Longer lengths normally have to be wound onto a reel
or capstan, which should be placed on suitable trestles
- Wear for unwinding.
Noticeable wear of strands is a forewarning of breakage
and beyond a certain limit a worn strand should be
considered as broken, and thus replaced. FIG.15
This limit can be considered reached when the diameter
of the strand appears on visual inspection to have been RIGHT
reduced to one half of its original diameter.
If seriously worn strands are found, increase the
frequency of cable inspections.

- Corrosion
Like wear, corrosion leads to strand breakage, but
corrosion is to be considered a more serious form of
deterioration than wear causing the same reduction in
diameter. WRONG
The rule above therefore still applies, but should be
applied even more strictly.
Reduction in a cable's diameter may be a sign of internal
corrosion.
The inside of the cable should be checked periodically
in order to identify any deterioration due to corrosion.

- Other signs of deterioration

Regardless of the evaluations discussed above, the RIGHT
cable must be replaced:
• when its overall diameter has been reduced by 10%
of its original diameter in even just one point;
• when a strand is completely broken, or when it has
received damage which reduces its working cross-
section by 40% in one or more points;
• when the cable has permanent dents, twists or kinks
caused by damage or resting on sharp corners;
• when the core comes out of the cable in even just one
WRONG
point;
• when one or more braids look slack and stick out even
when the cable is taut.

- Checking the cable

Cable performance can often by improved by identifying
the causes of cable deterioration and using types
particularly resistant to these factors, or eliminating or
reducing the level of the causes themselves. RIGHT
These deterioration factors can normally be identified
by examining a used cable.

A cable's working life may be reduced, or a new cable

even irreparably damaged, if it is not correctly installed.
The instructions should be followed in every detail (see
Fig. 15).

• The reel or spool of cable must be unwound as shown

in Fig. 15. WRONG

15
7502028
FIG.16
9.3) Return pulley maintenance
After a given period of operation, the return pulley races
may be damaged beyond the acceptable limit, causing
damage to the cables.
Whenever the cables are replaced, check that the
bottoms of the pulley races are smooth and their
diameter is 7-10% greater than the nominal diameter
of the new cable.
a
WARNING: During maintenance operations
under the platform,it is necessary to use the relative
safety blocks assembled on the rail fastenings (Fig.16/

disconnect the cables from the lift carriage and the base
connection. After removing the old cables, prepare the
new ones, fixing the end fixture to one end immediately
with the relative clamps.

Fix the cables to the tie-rods on the carriage, pass the

cables over the transmission pulleys and once on the
ground check their length. Check that the cables are
350-500 mm longer than the nominal length.

WARNING: The exact measurement must be

made with the springs on the carriage compressed
