AN ARROGANT FROG
One cloudy day, a frog named Froggie stood on the edge of a small river in the middle of
the forest. He was there to wait for the rain to fall and play in the water because he loved the rain
so much. Not long after, water began to drip slowly from the sky.
"Ribbit... ribbit... it’s finally raining. I am very happy!" Froggie said while jumping up
and down.
He jumped and sang on the riverbank. Then, he saw Fishie swimming in the water and
greeted him.
"Hi, Fishie. Look! It is raining. I am very happy. Playing in the rain like this is really
fun," said Froggie to Fishie.
"I can’t feel the rain, Froggie. I live in the water. I can’t enjoy the rain like you do,"
Fishie replied.
"Poor you, Fishie. You should be like me. I can live on land and in the water. If only you
could get up here, you would be happy. Okay, then. Just enjoy your life in the water. I want to
have some fun. Bye," said Froggie. Fishie was a little offended by what Froggie said. He was sad
that he couldn’t feel the rain like Froggie. After that, Froggie left Fishie.
He jumped along the riverbank, and he met Antie, an ant who took shelter in the bushes.
"Why are you just standing there, Antie? You don’t want to play in the water when it’s
raining? This is so much fun. Ribbit... ribbit..." Froggie asked Antie.
"I am so small, Froggie. If I play in the rain, I might be carried away and drown in the
river. I can’t swim," replied Antie.
"That’s why you have to learn to swim, Antie. Since I was little, I could swim." This is
very easy. You just need to stretch your legs and push them back like this!"
Froggie threw himself into the water and started swimming.
"I can’t, Froggie," said Antie. Then Froggie came out of the water and approached Antie.
"Why? Is it because your legs are so small and short? Oops. Hahaha. What a pity," said
Froggie, looking down at Antie’s tiny feet.
"Well, okay then. I want to play again. I hope it rains for a long time because I love rain.
Happy waiting here. Hope you don’t get bored. Hahaha." Froggie left the frowning Antie.
After some time, Froggie jumped around, then rested under a tree. He looked up and
found Eaglie perched on one of the branches.
"Hi, Eaglie. What are you doing there? Are you afraid of rain like Antie? Are you afraid
of getting your feather wet? Or… can’t you enjoy the rain like Fishie?" After saying that,
Froggie burst out laughing while Eaglie just stared at Froggie.
"Froggie, can you come up here?" asked Eaglie.
"What do you mean, Eaglie? Of course not," answered Froggie.
"Can you fly?" asked Eaglie again.
"I don’t have wings!" Froggie answered, slightly annoyed.
"Froggie, I saw you making fun of Fishie because he can’t get out of the water and enjoy
the rain. You also made fun of Antie because she can’t swim. We can’t be like that, Froggie. Did
you know that Antie can go to very small places and Fishie can breathe underwater and can
explore this entire river from upstream to downstream? The Creator made us with different
uniqueness so that we each have our own strength. So, you shouldn’t make fun of them," advised
Eaglie.
"All right, Eaglie. I am so sorry. I will not do it again. I will apologize to Fishie and Antie
later. Thanks for your advice," said Froggie.
