Common expressions with ‘at’:
at home, at work, at the office, at school, at university, at the bridge, at
reception.
Ex : o I will see you at home.
o When will you arrive at the office?
‘on’ is used for a surface. Ex: on the wall, on the ceiling, on the shelf, on the door, on
the cover, on the floor, on the carpet, on the menu, on a page, on a street (or road).
Ex : o There are no prices on the menu.
o There was a “no smoking” sign on the wall.
‘in’ is used for enclosed space. Ex: in the garden, in ‘country’, in ‘city’, in a box, in
my pocket, in my wallet, in a building, in a car, in a taxi, in a lift (elevator), in a
helicopter, in a room, in water (lake, river, sea, pool) …
Ex : o The keys are in my bag.
o We are going swimming in the pool.
