DESIGN OF DECK SLAB FOR CTC/SP AT 1.160 M OF BD-9 UNDER TAIL END DISTRIBUTARY OF N.R.B.C.

BD-9 crosses a nalla / kutcha road at 1.160 Km. Analysis and design of proposed Slab is presented in this design note.
The bridge is designed as a RCC Structure as per IRC codes 6 and 21 for Class A loadings as per KBJNL norrms. The
Dead load and Super Imposed dead load are considered as per the computation given below. Live Load combination is
arrived by generating moving load in STAAD for the span, and checking for maximum moment.The load combination
yielding maximum moment is considered and live load moment is accordingly obtained by STAAD Pro.

1 Structure Details
(i) Type of Structure = CTC/SP
(ii) Width of Carriageway = 5.500 m
(iii) Overall Span (C/C of Expansion joint) = 5.000 m
(iv) Overall Width of bearing (Abutment) = 0.800 m
(v) Kerb width = 0.475 m
(vi) Kerb depth abone slab surface = 0.315 m
(vii) Solid side wall thickness = 0.200 m
(viii) Solid side wall height (Inclussive kerb height) = 0.915 m
(xi) Deck slab overall width = 6.450 m
(x) Deck slab Thickness = 0.400 m
(xi) Effective deck slab thickness = 0.352 m
(xii) Main steel Dia = 16 mm
(xiii) Distribution steel Dia = 10 mm
(xiv) Clear cover provided = 40 mm
(xv) Thickness of wearing coat = 75 mm

2 Material Used
(i) Concrete = M 25
(ii) Steel = Fe 500
(iii) Density of Concrete = 2.5 T/m^3

3 Effective Span calculations (Ref. IRC:21-2000, Cl. 305.4.2)


(i) Clear span + Effective depth = 5.00 - 0.500 - 0.500 - + 0.352 = 4.352 m
(ii) Clear span + C/C of support = 4.00 + 0.250 + 0.250 = 4.500 m
Whichever is less,
Effective Span (Leff) = 4.352 m

Overall span 5.000 m

4 Dead Load Bending Moment and Shear Force Calculations

(i) Self weight of Slab 0.400 x 1.000 x 2.5 = 1.000 T/M


(ii) Self weight of wearing coat 0.075 x 1.000 x 2.5 = 0.188 T/M
(iii) Self weght of Kerb 0.475 x 0.315 x 2.5 = 0.374 T/M
(iv) Self weght of Parapet wall 0.200 x 0.600 x 2.5 = 0.300 T/M

For a Single Concentrated Load, the effective width of slab, perpendicular to span is expressed as
