Site Analysis + Programming

This document discusses site analysis and programming for architectural design. It begins by explaining that context includes external elements that influence the building and site layout. Site inventory creates a list of existing on-site elements, while site analysis evaluates the site in relation to the development program, environment, and constraints. Programming is a research process to gather and analyze relevant information to identify spaces. Relationship matrices and diagrams are then used to understand how activities, objects, and spaces relate to each other on the site.

ARCHITECTURAL
CONTENTS

 CONTEXT
 PROGRAMMING
 RELATIONSHIP
1. CONTEXT

 Context is simply an external element that influences the building and its
site both. Basically, the context determines the architectural style, building
material selection and site layout.
Site Inventory

 Site inventory is the first step in design process. It is simply the list of
elements that currently exist in the property. Elements that exist in adjacent
properties should also be considered if they impact the future design.
Site Analysis

 Site analysis involves the evaluation of an existing or potential site in

relation to the development program, environments impact, impacts on
the community and adjacent properties, project budget and schedule.
 The site analysis identifies environmental, program and development
constraints and opportunities.
Design response(to context)

 Site analysis involves the evaluation of an existing or potential site in

relation to the development program, environments impact, impacts on
the community and adjacent properties, project budget and schedule.
 The site analysis identifies environmental, program and development
constraints and opportunities.
2. PROGRAMMING

 What is Architectural Programming?

 Architectural Programming Is a research Process to gather, analyze and
document relevant information(Human factor, function and activities,
relationship, cost, site, climate…)and then reach to conclusion.
Space Identification

 Tabular Identification
 Brown or Grid Sheet
 Appropriate size for each space
 Iconic Identification
 Illustrate space size with rectangular figures
 Efficient in showing comparative space size
3. RELATIONSHIP

 Relationship Matrices and Diagrams

 Two basic points
 The programmer must discover the actual relationships and not make
assumptions based on past experiences
 The programmer needs to have good understanding of relationship between
activities, objects , and places in order to know which activities and objects can
and should be separated into distinct spaces and rooms and which will work
better in one common area.
