reflectance curve - Platforms. .
UNIT III (12 Hrs.)
Aerial Remote Sensing: Camera types – analog and digital products - Stereoscopic vision – Elements of interpretation.
UNIT IV (12 Hrs.)
Satellite Remote Sensing: Types of satellite – Orbits – Resolution – Sensors – Resolutions and characteristics –
LANDSAT – SPOT – IRS.

Remote sensing Applications: Natural resource management: land and water – disaster studies

Introduction: Open source tools - Open source GIS software - GRASS - QGIS: Overview of interface - Toolbars -
Adding spatial and non-spatial data - Coordinate Systems.

UNIT II (12 Hrs.)


Raster Data: Sources of raster data - Conversion of analog into digital - Spatial and spectral resolution - Preparing
grayscale, true colour and false colour images - Georeferencing of raster images.
UNIT III (12 Hrs.)
Vector Data: Spatial data capturing: point, line and polygon - Creating shapefiles - Digitizing and editing vector data
- Adding attribute data - Joining tables - Labeling.

UNIT IV (12 Hrs.)


Symbolization and Visualization: Attributefield selection and classification - Symbols: graduated, continuous and
unique value - Map composition: title, map body, legend, north arrow, scale bar, map border, source and graticule.

UNIT V (12 Hrs.)


Spatial Analysis: Measuring distances and area -Vector analysis: buffer and spatial overlay - Raster analysis: spatial
interpolation and raster overlay - Data conversion: raster to vector - vector to raster.

Geosciences – Concepts in Geomorphology, landform analysis- Aerial/Satellite data interpretation, Drainage basin
morphometry and slope mapping, integrated approach for landslide hazard zonation mapping.
Unit II (12 Hrs.)
Water Resources – Watershed Hydrology and Physical process in watershed, Geospatial technological applications
in waters resources assessment. Organization and design of spatial and non-spatial data in water resources.

Unit III (12 Hrs.)


Agriculture and Soil – Spectral characteristics of crop, crop inventory, physiographic soil mapping. Crop water
management, Agro ecological zoning and land evaluation.

Unit IV (12 Hrs.)


Forest – Vegetation classification and mapping, forest inventory and sampling techniques, growing stock
estimation, biomass estimation, forest management, fire risk zonation, land evaluation for forestry, landscape
analysis, wild life habitat suitability Analysis.

Urban Mapping and Disaster Management – Large scale (LIS) mapping for cadastral database, traffic and
parking surveys, Urban land use classification monitoring and change detection analysis, Utility Planning, Integrated
