First and foremost I would like to thank The Almighty who has showered His blessings upon me and has helped me to complete the project on time by keeping me hale and healthy. I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr. George John, Group Business Director and Mr.V.Renganathan, Insights Director of BIRD Division, IMRB International, Chennai for providing me an opportunity to pursue this project in their organization and for their constant motivation, guidance and support throughout the project. I am also grateful to Ms. Nandini, Associate Research Manager for her valuable help and guidance throughout the project. I would like to thank the Director and all the Faculty members of BIM, Trichy, for equipping me with necessary knowledge to carry out my project. Finally, I would like to thank all the people from various organizations who provided me with valuable inputs and information for carrying out this project.

Executive Summary
The automotive industry is an established and an organized sector in India. There are several players in this sector with world class recognition for their products. This sector encompasses several sub sectors such as: Two-wheeler, Three-wheeler, Four wheeler (Passenger vehicles), Commercial vehicles, Auto-components market, and Original Equipment market and after- market sector. This sector is growing at a rapid pace and contributing largely to the Indian economy. To meet this increasing demand, skilled manpower is a requirement. It is well known that this industry recruits engineers for different job requirements and provide training and development. Though the industry is huge and organized, the training practices followed by the companies in this sector vary widely. The training practices followed in the automotive sector is very much unorganized and in the nascent stage unlike the other established sectors (For example: IT sector). To understand the current training practices, trends, need gap (if any) and to provide insights, this research has been carried out. The working professionals, management and the Institutes involved in providing technical training to the companies are the sources of information. By studying these, three objectives are to be met. One, to get a picture of the current scenario, trend and need gap in the training practices in the Indian Automotive sector. Two, opinion from the management side of the automotive companies is to be understood and their strategies planned for training. Three, the competitive landscape present among the institutes, providing technical training for the employees. This gives an overview of the current training practices in the Indian automotive sector. And also gives the employees opinion on the practices, their expectations and their intentions and plans for the future. With these insights the Management of Indian automotive companies as well as the Institutes can understand and plan their strategies accordingly.
