Chapter 1
Purpose-Introduce the concept ofProfessional Code of
Conduct

The purpose of this section is to introduce the concept of a Professional Code of Conduct to
the students. The Professional Code of Conduct refers to a set of ethical guidelines and
principles that individuals in a particular profession are expected to follow. It helps maintain
professional integrity, promotes trust, and ensures a respectful and productive working
environment. By understandingand adhering to the code, professionals can uphold high
standards of behavior and enhance their professional reputation.

Method - Using Group Discussion as a platform:

To introduce the concept of a Professional Code of Conduct, you can engage the students in
a group discussion. Begin by asking them to share one practice or rule that everyone in their
family or home has to follow. For example, not wearing footwear in the house, taking a bath
first thing in the morning, seeking blessings from elders, etc. This activity aims to make the
students reflect on the existence of a code of conduct within their own family. Connect this
Code of Conduct in their family to one that exists in the professional world:
Once the students have shared their family practices, you can transition the discussion to
draw parallels between the family code of conduct and the professional code of conduct.
Explain that just as families have rules and expectations for behavior to maintain harmony
and respect within the household, professions also have specific guidelines to ensure
professionalism, ethics, and integrity in the workplace. Emphasize that adhering to the
professional code of conduct is crucial for maintaining a positive work environment and
upholding the values of the profession.
Outcome - Awareness of profession-specific code of conduct and importance of
adherence to that code:

The outcome of this discussion is to raise awareness among the students about the existence
and significance of a profession-specific code of conduct. By actively participating in the
group discussion, students will gain a better understanding of the expectations placed upon
professionals in various fields. They will recognize theimportance of adhering to the code
of conduct and the positive impact it can have on their careers.

Additionally, this activity encourages students to express their opinions verbally and
fosters empathy towards diverse backgrounds and values. It promotes an inclusive
environment where students canlearn from each other's experiences and perspectives.
Through this exercise, students develop communication skills, empathy, and an
understanding of professional ethics, all of which are valuable traits for their personal and
professional growth.
Chapter 2

morality
Chapter 2
Purpose-Impress upon the students, the significance of morality

The purpose of this section is to emphasize the importance of moralityto the students.
Morality refers to a system of principles and values that guides individuals in
distinguishing right from wrong. Understanding and practicing morality is crucial for
personal growth, maintaining trust, and creating a just society. By highlighting the
significance of morality, students can reflect on their own behaviors and make ethical
choices in their personal and academic lives.

Method - Role play a professional situation or use a short video:

To convey the significance of morality, you can utilize role play or show a short video that
portrays an unethical situation. For example, you can create a role play scenario where an
engineer is not competentand tries to copy the work of a colleague, intending to claim credit
for it. Alternatively, you can show a video that clearly depicts unethical behavior. After the
role play or video, ask the students who observed the situation to react and share their
opinions.
Note to teachers: Read about Kohlberg's theory and Gilligan's theory: To provide deeper
understanding of moral behavior, it is recommended that teachers familiarize themselves
with Kohlberg'stheory of moral development and Gilligan's theory of moral reasoning.
Kohlberg's theory suggests that individuals progress through differentstages of moral
development, from a focus on self-interest to aconcern for universal ethical principles.
Gilligan's theory highlightsthe importance of caring and relationships in moral
decision-making,particularly from a feminist perspective. These theories can serve as
frameworks for understanding the levels of moral behavior andreasoning.
Outcome - Incite students to contemplate their own immoral behavior:
The desired outcome of this activity is to encourage students to reflect on their own
behaviors and choices in public spaces or academic environments. By witnessing the
unethical situation in the role play or video, students will be prompted to introspect and
evaluate their own values and actions. They will be motivated to consider instances where
they may have engaged in immoral behavior, such as copying homework or assignments,
and recognize the need to make ethical choices.
Through this exercise, students will understand the importance of personal integrity and the
impact their actions can have on themselves and others. It will instill a sense of responsibility
and encourage them to choose the right path based on moral principles. By creating a space
for open discussion and reflection, students can develop a greater awareness of their own
moral compass and strive to act ethically in various aspects of their lives.
