Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting the MGT6000 (Micro Gas Turbine 6000) Single Shaft system
requires a systematic approach to identify and resolve issues effectively. As an
experienced engineer, here's a detailed troubleshooting guide for the MGT6000
Single Shaft:
1. Preliminary Checks:
a. Visual Inspection:
- Inspect the turbine for any visible damage, leaks, or loose connections.
- Check for proper alignment of components.
b. Fluid Levels:
- Ensure that fuel, oil, and coolant levels are within the specified range.
- Verify the quality of fuel and oil.
c. Instrumentation:
- Check instrumentation readings for abnormal values.
- Ensure all sensors and transmitters are functioning correctly.
6
2. Control System:
a. Controller Status:
- Verify the status of the control system. Look for error codes or alarms.
- Check the integrity of the control signals.
3. Start-up Issues:
a. Ignition System:
- Check the ignition system for proper functioning.
- Verify the spark plug condition and ignition timing.
b. Fuel System:
- Inspect the fuel system for blockages or leaks.
- Check the fuel pressure and flow rate.
4. Performance Issues:
a. Power Output:
- Monitor and analyze the power output against the expected values.
- Check for any fluctuations or instability.
b. Combustion System:
- Inspect the combustion system for anomalies.
- Monitor exhaust gas temperatures and ensure they are within limits.
7
5. Vibration Analysis:
a. Vibration Levels:
- Monitor and analyze vibration levels.
- Investigate the cause of any abnormal vibrations.
b. Bearing Inspection:
- Inspect bearings for wear or damage.
- Check lubrication systems for proper functioning.
6. Exhaust System:
a. Exhaust Gas Temperature:
- Monitor exhaust gas temperature and
compare it to the specified range.
- Check for any signs of overheating or
abnormal exhaust gas characteristics.
7. Communication Systems:
a. Data Logging:
- Check the data logging system for any anomalies.
- Ensure communication between different components is functioning.
b. Remote Monitoring:
- Verify remote monitoring systems for real-time data.
- Ensure alarms and notifications are operational.
8. Environmental Conditions:
a. Ambient Temperature:
- Consider the impact of ambient temperature on turbine performance.
- Adjust operating parameters if needed.
8
b. Humidity and Altitude:
- Account for humidity and altitude effects on turbine operation.
- Adjust settings as per environmental conditions.
9. Documentation Review:
a. Manuals and Logbooks:
- Review operation and maintenance manuals.
- Analyze logbooks for any historical issues or trends.
10. Collaboration:
a. Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other engineers, operators, and technicians.
- Share information and experiences to troubleshoot effectively.
After five operational years of supplying electricity and heat to the local
corporate grid with high load fluctuations, we would like to share with you
how we have managed to both improve the availability of the gas turbines
and significantly reduce the number of protective shutdowns. Although the
installed MGT6000 gas turbines were produced within the prototype series,
the first machine will soon be reaching the nominal service interval for hot
gas area inspection. A recent borescope inspection has shown the machine is
in an overall good condition.

Installation and Commissioning
The first MGT6000 packages were delivered at the end of 2015 (Picture 2). After
having been commissioned by a joint team of Chinese and German engineers, the
customer took over the MGT6000
packages on February 4, 2016 (Picture 3).
MAN Energy Solutions’ objective is to
localize the customer support and service
for their products to a great extent.
Therefore, local engineers were trained
during commissioning to provide service
and customer support for operation of the
plant. Furthermore, they can rely on the
support of our specialists from our
headquarter for detailed data analysis and
monitoring.
