17. Drift velocity is defined as the average velocity with which a free electron 2
in the conductor gets drifted in a direction opposite to the direction of the
applied external electric field (1)
Derivation I = nAevd (1)
18. Diagram (1) 2
To reduce the spherical abreaction, the aperture of objective is taken
shorter. (1)
19. (a) As we have n = c/v; v= 3x 108/1.5= 2 x 108ms-1 (1) 2
(b) No. The refractive index and hence the speed of light in a medium,
depends on wavelength. Now we know violet colour deviates more
than red in a glass prism, nv>nr (1)
OR
Intensity I = 4 I0cos2ꬾ/2
(i) For a path difference of λ/4, phase difference is 2π/4 = π/2; so I = 2 I0
(1)
(ii) For a path difference ,λ/3, phase differenc is 2π/3
I = I0 (1)
20. Slope of V0 versus υ graph gives a measure of h/e and is a constant. So 2
the slope of both the lines are same (1)
More is the threshold frequency more is the work function and vice versa.
As hυ = ꬾ0 + Ek for metal M1, kinetic energy of photoelectron is less

22. Derivation T = PE isnϴ (1) 3
(i) Charge enclosed in sphere S1 = 2 Q
So electric flux = 2Q/ϵ0
Charge enclosed in sphere, S2 =2Q +4Q =6Q
Flux = 6 Q//ϵ0
Ratio = 1/3
(ii) If a medium of relative permittivity ϵr is filled inside sphere S1,
then flux = 2 Q//ϵ0 ϵr (2)
23. As C1/C2 = C3/C4, The points C and D are at same potential and no charge 3
flows through the capacitor C3
Circuit diagram (1 ½ )
C12 = 20/3 µF ; C34 = 10/3µF; Ceq = C12 + C34 = 10µF
Q = Ceq V = 10-4 C (11/2)
24. I law : The algebraic sum of currents at a junction is zero 3
II law : In a closed loop, the algebraic sum of the emf’s is equal to the
algebraic sum of the products of the resistances and the respective currents
in them (1)
We specify current in all the 12 edges of the cube in terms of I1 using
Kirchoff’s I law and the symmetry.
apply II Law E = 5/2 IR and I = 4/3 A (2)
25. (a) Biot-Savart law states that the magnitude of the magnetic field d 3
B at any point due to small current element is given by d B =
µ0/4π( Idl sinϴ/r2) with expansion (1)
(b)

Calculation of mass defect (1)
Mass defect = 0.528461 u
Binding energy = 0.528461 x 931 = 493 MeV (1)
Now for Bi , Mass defect = 1.7760877u
Binding energy for Bi = 1.7760877 x 931 = 1640 MeV
Binding energy per nucleon for fe and Bi (1)

(a) Electric flux is defined as the total number of electric field lines
passing through an area normal to its surface.(1)
(b) Derivation with diagram (2) +(1)
(c) If σ is positive, E points
normally outward from the sheet and if σ is negative, E points
normally inwards (1)
30. (a) Transformer: a transformer converts low ac voltage into high and vice 5
versa (1)
Construction: It consists of laminated core of soft iron, on which two
coils of insulated copper wire are separately wound. These coils are
kept insulated from each other and from the iron core but are coupled
through mutual induction. The number of turns in these coils are
different. Out of these coils, one coil is primary and the other one is
secondary coil. The terminals are connected ac input and the terminals
of the secondary coil are connected to external circuit (1)
(b) Any two sources of energy loss (1)
(c) It doesn’t violet conservation of energy because when voltage
increases, current decreases so power will remain the same (1)
Working (1)
OR
(a) Impedance is the opposition offered by the combination of a resistor
and reactive components to the flow of ac. Z = V/ I (1)
(b)

Derivation (2)
31. (a) Diagram (1) 5
(b) Lenses are generally heavy, so it becomes bulky. It is not free from
chromatic abbration (1)

vm=1.5×108m/s.
3. Statement (1)
(or)
Snell's window is a phenomenon by which an underwater viewer sees
everything above the surface through a cone of light of width of about
96 degrees. This phenomenon is caused by refraction of light
entering water, and is governed by Snell's Law.
