Manager: Coordinates and supervises the
work of others, in order to achieve
organizational goals.
Nonmanagerial employees:
- Work on work or tasks directly
- Not in charge of anyone

Organizations with traditional work structures
have first-line, mid-level, and top-level managers.
In organizations with looser structures, it may not
be easy to tell who is the manager and who is not.
- But, there must be someone who plays the role of
manager.

Managers work in an organization, which
is an arrangement of people deliberately
to achieve certain goals.
- Three characteristics of the organization:
1. the presence of clear goals
2. made up of people
3. the presence of a real work structure

structure that is more open, flexible, and
responsive to changes.

Is it still called managing when what you manage
is a robot?
- There is no doubt that robotic technology will
continue to be incorporated into organizational
situations.
- The manager's job will become more interesting and
challenging as humans and machines work together
to achieve organizational goals.

Broadly speaking, management is what managers
do.
Management involves coordinating and
supervising the efficient and effective completion
of the work activities of others.
Efficiency means doing things right
Effectiveness means doing things right

Planning: Goals, strategies, and work plans.
Organizing: Work structure.
Leadership: Working with and through others.
Control: Supervise, assess, and improve
performance.

Managerial roles: The categorization of
managerial behaviors into specific groups.

- Interpersonal: (1) Involving others and (2)


symbolic/ceremonial duties.
- Information: The collection, receipt, and
dissemination of information.
