Presentation Progress Report Guidelines - FINAL
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
Task
The purpose of this group presentation is to verbally report to your project supervisor (i.e. your
class teacher) about the progress of your project. It also allows you to get useful feedback about
your Progress Report which you will edit and subsequently submit in Week 11. You need to
present how much and what type of work has been done by a particular date, by whom, how
well and how close the entire job is to completion. Each team member will present a few sections
of the report (see below) and speak for 4-5 minutes. The whole presentation should be
approximately 20 minutes (teams of four) or 25 minutes (teams of five) long. Your teacher will
discuss with you and decide on a presentation schedule (during class in Week 10) as well as
which online video presentation app/platform to use.
Content
1. Introduction: the statement of problem, the background to the problem, the main
causes and the consequences if no action is taken
2. Data collection [survey & interview, target participants, justifications, procedures]
3. Work allocation
4. Work completed (Week 5-Week 10): timeline/schedule
5. Work scheduled (Week 11-Week 14): timeline/schedule
6. Challenges and Projections
7. Early results
Presentation aids:
-use appropriate aids, e.g. PowerPoint slides (see textbook p.389-392).
-show keywords or important information only, not lengthy sentences or paragraphs.
-keep your slides to 15 or less and email them to your teacher one day before presentation.
-number your slides and refer to them clearly as you present (instead of showing them on
camera or screen), e.g. Table 1 shows that…as shown on slide no. 2, the second bullet point
is about…the picture on slide no. 3 is…
Delivery:
-avoid reading from the report or a script.
-you can refer to your slides or notes but try to look at the camera as much as possible.
-make sure you speak loudly and clearly, with at least half of your body visible on camera so
that your gestures/body language are clearly seen.
-find a quiet spot, with good lighting and an uncluttered background.
Note: Make sure you have a stable internet connection for the live presentation (video
meeting); if you can’t join the presentation and you don’t have any valid reason or proof, your
marks will be affected.

SEMESTER 1, SESSION 2020/21
Task
The purpose of this report is to inform your project supervisor (i.e. your class teacher, NOT the
intended audience of your proposal) about the progress of your project as outlined in the Plan
of Research. You need to explain how much and what type of work has been done by a
particular date, by whom, how well and how close the entire project is to completion. The report
should be at least 3 pages long, excluding charts/graphs/tables, reference list and appendices.
Submit the soft copy on Spectrum (Class Forum – Turnitin Assignment) on the day of your class
to avoid network congestion on Spectrum. For example, if your class is on Monday, the deadline
is Monday 11.59p.m. There will be a deduction of marks for late submission. Only one
submission is required from each project team.

Visuals/non-linear information:
-use appropriate diagrams/charts/tables with a brief description (see textbook p.232-253) to
present your early results.
-any non-linear info must be clearly labelled, captioned and used to illustrate (not substitute)
written text, i.e. there must be a paragraph to explain the info (see textbook p.228-232).
Turnitin report:
-there will be no penalty if your Turnitin report shows a high similarity % with existing sources.
Your teacher will explain to you what the percentage means. Use the similarity report to edit
your work and avoid plagiarism in your Proposal later.
-to avoid high similarity %, do not send your report to Turnitin before the actual submission.
