Beehiiv's UX Cheat Sheet

🛣 Checklist: 5 Psychology tips to improve your UX

Here are 5 tactics you can apply right away to make any screen/journey better:

Tactic How

Use Singularity Effect Whenever possible try to humanize the copywriting of your product.
vs. Generic Copy ● Who’s presenting the idea/message?
● Can you personify the flow?
For example, during onboarding, do you have an assistant guiding us
through the discovery steps? Can we use that person and write as if
she’s doing one guiding us through?

People have a stronger feeling of reciprocity when they deal with a

human vs. a computer. We’ve become numb towards machines, so
creating a humane experience is the way to go if you wish to increase
engagement!

Reduce Cognitive This applies all the time.

Load
Whether you’re doing a landing page, a newsletter, selling
merchandise, or creating a new Saas. Cognitive load will be your
enemy. It’ll create extra noise that’ll misguide potential customers
towards the exit or non-critical information.
● Is everything on that page necessary?

Less IS more. Always.

Re-Frame positively There are two sides to a coin.

The glass can be half-full or half-empty. Try to present and create

things as if the glass was half-full.

And be careful not to overdo it or lie about what you’re really doing. If
expectations are too high and aren’t met, then reactance will be
greater.

Tactic How

Prime to increase Use subtle visual elements, images or icons, that subconsciously
perceived value remind people of similar concepts or actions before they
encounter them. (Example: Burger billboard right before an exit
with a McDonalds)

Also, try to create copy that primes people's minds by setting

expectations or creating a specific mindset. (Example: using
phrases like "Get Started Now" can prime people to be more
proactive in their interactions)

Create visual anchors Use a clean and uncluttered design with a clear hierarchy of
for easier scanning and information. Minimize unnecessary elements, and ensure visual
interpretation consistency throughout the interface.
● What catches the eye first?

Look for high-contrast areas:

● Are these areas where we should pay attention first?
● Is there where the main action takes place?
● Is the information displayed in these areas critical?

Also, look for unexpected elements:

● Are there any unique elements that stand out on the page?
