WHAT IS SPACE SCIENCE?
Space science encompasses all of the scientific disciplines that involve space exploration and
study natural phenomena and physical bodies occurring in outerspace.

Astronomers Astronauts: Space Sailor

Astronomy is the study of everything in the universe beyond Earth's atmosphere.

Is the Space Science Only about
Rockets,
Planets,
Stars,
Galaxies

Some discoveries with Space Science
Fundamental disease research: Studying cells, organoids, and protein clusters without the influence of gravity – or even the forces of
container walls – can help researchers get a clearer understanding of their properties, behaviors, and responses to treatments.

New water purification systems: Efficiently recycling wastewater aboard the space station reduces the need to provide water
through resupply missions.

Drug development using protein crystals: Protein crystals grown on Earth are affected by gravity, which may alter the way the
molecules align on the crystal. Researchers have discovered that growing crystals aboard the space station allows for slower
growth and higher quality crystals. This high-quality crystallization allows us to identify the structures of disease-causing
proteins to develop a new medications and effective treatments.

Growing food in microgravity : New solutions for watering, lighting, and growing plants have to be tested to create a food crop
in microgravity. The space station has served as a platform for performing these tests, and for verifying what conditions allow
the plants to grow most effectively.

WHY WE NEED SPACE SCIENCE?

It’s a subject that strives to answer the ultimate questions:

• How did our Earth and our Solar System form and evolve?
• What is our place in the Universe?
• Where are we going?
• Where did life come from, and are we alone?
• Gain Scientific knowledge and technological advancement.

EVOLUTION OF SPACE SCIENCE?

Nicolaus Copernicus, 1543 Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) Charles Messier,

• Earth revolved around the Sun and not vice versa. •The phases of Venus 17th Cenetury
• Earth rotates on its own axis. •Surface of Moon
• Church made him recant •Jupiter's moons Concept of Galaxy and
•The stars of the Milky Way. Milky way
•The first pendulum clock.
•Invented Telescope.
•Observed Solar System.

GALAXY
Galaxies are vast cosmic islands of stars, gas,
dust, and dark matter held together by gravity.
They are made of billions of stars as well as
their solar systems.

Properties of Galaxy
1. Galaxies come in all shapes and sizes.
2. Galaxies contain billions of stars.
3. Galaxies are held together by gravity.
4. Galaxies can collide with each other.
5. There are different types of galaxies.

Can we See galaxy from earth?

The nearby Andromeda Galaxy, also called M31, is bright enough to be seen by the
naked eye on dark, moonless nights.
MILKY WAY AND OUR SOLAR SYSTEM
• Galileo Galilei first resolved the band of light into
individual stars with his telescope in 1610

• Until the early 1920s, most astronomers thought that

the Milky Way contained all the stars in the Universe.

• The astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis,

showed that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies

Why MARS?

The scientific reasons for going to Mars are

• the search for life,

• understanding the surface
• Understanding the planet's evolution,
• preparing for future human exploration
You can observe space and identify different
planets and galaxies using your Smartphone

Space Science and Astronauts

After innovative observations by astronomers, Scientist

now wanted to travel on Space for which Rocket Science
Technology came forward.

However There are various challenges in space

CHALLENGES OF SPACE

Space junk and collisions in orbit

CHALLENGES OF SPACE SCIENCE
Why do Rockets need high Speed?

Rocket Fuel: liquid hydrogen

and liquid oxygen

To make it safe from the air

resistance collision aerospace
grade aluminum or titanium
since both metals are very
strong but light weight

Rocket needs to reach a speed of at least 7.9 km/s

EVOLUTION OF ROCKET SCIENCE

EARTHS OWN SATELLITE
The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite
SPACE SCIENCE AND SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY

Technically, satellite is an advanced technology (machine) launched into the space with the purpose to
revolve around the earth and collected the targeted data

Types of Satellite

Communication Satellite
It is designed largely for the purpose of communication. It contains the Transmitter and Responder; these
instruments help in transmitting the data.

Earth Observation Satellite

This satellite helps in finding the earth’s resources, and also helps in disaster management, etc. So, it is
basically a remote sensing satellite.

Navigation Satellite
Such satellite helps in navigation. So, it is basically a Global Positioning Satellite.

Weather Satellite
This satellite is exclusively designed for weather forecast. It has high resolution camera that takes picture
of weather system and send.
WHY EVERY COUNTRY IS LAUNCHING THEIR OWN SATELLITE?

• Technological advancement.

• Globalization of technology.

• Strengthening the foundation for economic development.

• Security purposes.

• Scientific advancement.

• Natural Calamites prediction.

• Remote sensing.
