TYPES OF QUESTIONS

1. Description Question
● Q. Tell me something about your hometown.

Technique 3 – Divide

Q. Tell me something about your hometown.


Well, I come from Kathmandu which is the capital city of Nepal. I’d like to begin by saying that it is the
biggest city of Nepal and even the busiest. On top of that I can also add that it’s very crowded, maybe
because it is the central city.

Q. What does your neighbourhood look like?


Well, I must say I live in a close-knit community and that makes my neghbourhood quite friendly and
amiable. I’d like to begin by saying that the people in my neighbourhood are hospitable and helpful. On top
of that I can also add that I’m fortunate to have such a lively neighbourhood.

2. “What Kinds” Question

Actually, there’s quite a mixed variety of flowers that are popular in my country. I think the most common
one is marigold because it is used in religious functions. In addition, roses are also popular, especially the
red roses since it is taken as a symbol of love and people love to give roses.

Any technique can be applied.

What kinds of books do you dislike?


Well, in general I would say I don’t prefer reading fictions, especially novels with love stories, and I guess
that is because I find the stories quite unreal. In addition, I also can’t stand autobiography because of its
hyperbolic tone and exaggerated nature.

4. “Habits” Question

● Q. Where do you usually study?
● Q. How much TV do you watch?
● Q. Where do you go shopping?

Technique 5 – It Depends

5. “Yes/No” Question
(NOTE: Can be asked in “Preference” or “Non-preference” ways.)

● Q. Are you planning any vacations?
● Q. Do you play any sports?
● Q. Do you play any musical instruments?

● Q.. What types of indoor activities did you do when you were a child?

Technique 1 – General to Specific

Technique 6 – Avoidance
(NOTE: Answer in past tense. While using Technique 5 – It depends, you need to say, “Actually it
depended.” Do not use “if”, use “when” instead.)

Did you play any sports when you were a child?


Well, It depended.
When I was in school or with my friends outside my house, I preferred to play football. But, when I was
with my siblings , I used to play chess.

7. “Future” Question

● Q. Would you like to learn a new language in the future?


● Q. Would you learn to play any musical instruments in the future?
● Q. In the future, what sort of home would you like to live in?
● Q. Do you think your hometown will change in the future?
● Q. Do you think you will have more free time in the future?
● Q. Where would you like to go for your next vacation?

Technique 6 – Avoidance (Only if the question is related with your future plan.)

Q. Where would you like to go for your next vacation?


Well, to be honest, I don’t really have a clear plan but I guess that I will probably go to some exotic
locations like Nepal because I’m really into hiking and exploring new areas.
