I really like movies. I enjoy going to the cinema to see them, and I also like to watch them at
home on DVD. A new way of getting movies is to download them from the internet. On the internet,
you can find a huge amount of movies, from the most recent to very old rare movies from over a
hundred years ago. I enjoy horror movies the most. I love the feeling of unease and fear the movies have
and if they make me jump, then it’s a really scary one. The old horror movies are better than the more
modern ones, if you ask me. Modern horror movies rely on blood and gore, with everything shown on
the screen, to try and make you squirm in your seat from being grossed out, but the older ones use a
different trick. They don’t show you a lot of the imagery on the screen, they show a shadow of the
monster or you hear the ghost but not see it. I like this much better because you have to use your
imagination and everyone ends up with their own images about what is actually happening. For me, this
is a far better way to experience a movie.
1) List the three ways the writer can see movies.
___________________________________________________________________________________
2) What kind of movies does the writer enjoy most? _________________________________________
3) Does the writer prefer modern movies or older movies? ____________________________________
4) How do the modern style of movies try to scare the viewer?
___________________________________________________________________________________
5) How do the old style movies do this?
