Logopress 1

1. The document provides step-by-step instructions for unbending a reference part to define different stations in a strip for stamping. It describes using features like unbending by steps, station marks, and delete face to iteratively unfold the part into its blank form. 2. Key steps include creating initial station marks, then using unbending by steps and delete face features to sequentially unfold bends and remove extruded holes to generate stations for bending, punching, and stamping operations. 3. The last station removes the central stamped form to define the blank that will be used to start the strip layout. Maintaining the proper order of features is important for successful unfolding of the part.

Open the reference part document

1. Click here or click Open , browse to \Logopress3 installation directory\

samples\strip_test, select Clutch.SLDPRT, and click Open.

2. NOTE: If the part is created with SOLIDWORKS, you can use a derived part to
speed up performance.
 In the FeatureManager design tree, click in front of the Solid Bodies folder in
order to expand the items.
 Right-click the body named Fold3 R3 A80°, and select Insert into New Part...
 Enter the file name to the new derived part: Clutch-Derived for example.
 Use this new derived part to create your configurations and the strip.

Advantages :

o You work on a solid body without any construction features (like an imported
part): it's fastest to rebuild.
o It's easy to modify the dimensions of the original part, then to update the
derived part and the strip.

Drawbacks :

o To avoid encountering errors, it's strongly recommended to open the original

part when working with the derived part or with the strip.

NOTE : To open the original part from the derived part, in the FeatureManager design
tree of the derived part, right-click the Stock-Clutch-Derived-> feature, and select
Edit In Context.
Unbend the reference part

Unbend the reference part step by step, from the final part to the blank.
Each different station of the strip is defined with a Station Mark (to speed up
performance).

1. Create the 1st station mark:

Usually, the 1st station is the final state of the part (considered as the finished part).
In this example, it's the station where the round hole is pierced on the leg.
There's nothing particular to do here, except creating the 1st Station Mark in order to
validate and memorize this state of the part into a solid body that will be used in the
annex part in the strip.

Click Insert a station mark in Logopress3 toolbar, or Logopress3 > Insert a

station mark.
A 010 STATION MARK feature is created (you can rename it).

2. 2nd station mark:

At this 2nd station are folded the 3 bends oriented to the bottom side direction.
Then, fill in the round hole on the leg in order to create the station where are folded
the 3 bends oriented to the bottom side direction:

1. you can use Delete Face feature, and select the internal hole face.
2. Click OK .

3. Click Insert a station mark in Logopress3 toolbar.

A 020 STATION MARK feature is created.

3. 3rd station mark:

At this 3rd station is folded the bend oriented to the top side direction.
Then, unfold the 3 bottom side bends.

1. First unfold the 2 bends without rib oriented to the bottom side direction.
1. Click Unbending by steps on the Logopress3 toolbar, or Logopress3 >
Unbending by steps.
2. Under Characteristics, click Select the round faces to unbend near the
fixed face side , and select the round faces on the side near the fixed
face.
NOTE: It's recommended to select the inside bend face. If the unbending
fails, try again by selecting the outside bend face.
NOTES:
 The selected side on the round face indicates the fixed edge (violet
color).
This selection is very important, because it has an influence on the
part orientation for the next operations. You have to know first
where is the fixed face before selecting the round face to unbend.

 It's recommended to select the inside bend face. If the unbending

fails, try again by selecting the outside bend face.

3. The bend with 2 aligned portions needs to be completed:

- Under Portion to unbend, select this unbending in the List of portions to
unbend (angle=-80, radius=3).

- Under Characteristics, click Select the round faces to unbend near the
fixed face side , and select the next round face to unfold.

NOTE: You can select directly this 2nd round face just after selecting the
1st one, without needing to select this unbending in the List of portions to
unbend.
4. You can overbend with the springback option.

For each one of these 2 unbending:

1. Under Portions to unbend:

Select one of these 2 unbending in the list.
2. Under Spring back/Overbend:
Click Choose the type of spring back and
select Apply a Springback.
3. Click Apply the Springback in each
configuration.
4. You can set:

 either click Computed Radius and enter the Angle

(positive value, for example 5 degrees).
The radius is automatically computed.
 or Click Computed Angle and enter the Radius
(for example 2.8mm).
The angle is automatically computed.

5. Click Ok , the springback feature is created

(named Overbending).
6. To unbend this bend after applying springback:
- Under Characteristics, click Select the round
faces to unbend near the fixed face side ,
and select the same face to unbend (that is
overbent).
- Under Characteristics, set the Type of
unbending : Full unbending.
7. Under Portion to unbend:

1. Click Station mark .

2. Change the station mark name: 025 STATION MARK.
NOTE: This way the station mark feature is added
before the next Unbending feature created in the
FeatureManager design tree.

NOTE: You can simulate the spring back effect by moving the rollback
bar above/below these Overbending feature after exiting.

5.

6. Click Keep visible to deactivate this mode and to exit the Unbending

by steps module, then click OK .

2. Remove the rib on the bigger bend. You can use Delete Face feature :
1. select the outer rib faces (you can select by cube, starting selecting outside
of the part).

2. select the inner rib faces (you can select by cube, starting selecting outside
of the part).
3. Unfold the last bend oriented to the bottom side direction.
1. Click Unbending by steps on the Logopress3 toolbar, or Logopress3 >
Unbending by steps.
2. Under Characteristics, click Select the round faces to unbend near the
fixed face side , and select the round face on the side near the fixed face.

3. Click OK .
4. Under Portion to unbend:
1. Click Station mark .
2. The station mark name 030 STATION MARK is proposed.
NOTE: This way the station mark feature is added before the next
Unbending feature created in the FeatureManager design tree.

5. 4th station mark:

At this 4th station the extruded hole is created.
Then, unfold the last bend in order to prepare the station for extruded hole creation.

1. Under Characteristics, click Select the round faces to unbend near the fixed
face side , and select the round face of the last bend on the side near the fixed
face.

2. Click OK .
3. Under Portion to unbend:
1. Click Station mark .
2. The station mark name 040 STATION MARK is proposed.
NOTE: This way the station mark feature is added before the next
Unbending feature created in the FeatureManager design tree.

5. 5th station mark:

At this 5th station are cut all the inside holes.

Then, remove the extruded hole in order to have only the stamped form with the
holes.

1. Under Characteristics, click Select the round faces to unbend near the fixed
face side , and select the round face of the rim hole to unfold (pink selection).
2. Click Select the edges of bend starting near the fixed face side , and select

that are located on a different level than the blank plane have to be filled, like in the
bottom of a stamped form for example.

1. You can use Delete Face feature:

Right-click one of the inside hole face of the central stamped form and select Select
Tangency.

2. Click OK .
3. Click Insert a station mark in Logopress3 toolbar.
A 060 STATION MARK feature is created.

7. 7th station mark:

Last station: this is the blank station used to start the strip layout.
Then remove the stamped central form.
In this case we can consider that this central form is stamped in the strip before
making the cuts.

1. You can use Delete Face feature:

Select the inner faces of the central form (you can select by cube, starting selecting
outside of the part).

2. Select the outer faces of the central form (you can select by cube, starting selecting
outside of the part).

3. Click OK .
NOTES:
- It's not necessary to fill the holes of the blank. This way you can automatically
create in the strip all the punches for the inside cuts of the part.
- It's not necessary to insert a station mark at the end of the FeatureManager, it will
be done automatically when preparing the strip.
- To update the solid bodies created by the station marks after part modification,
press Ctrl+Q.
