Syllabus :Module 1: Introduction to Construction Technology and Management: Overview of construction
industry and its role in infrastructure development Introduction to construction technology and its
applications : Construction project life cycle and stakeholders, Construction project delivery methods and
contracts, Module 2: Construction Project Planning and Scheduling: Project feasibility analysis and site
selection, Construction project planning and organizing, Construction project scheduling techniques (Gantt
charts, critical path method), Resource allocation and optimization in construction projects Module 3:
Construction Methods and Techniques: Fundamentals of construction methods and techniques, Building
systems and construction technologies, Earthwork and foundation construction, Concrete construction
techniques, Structural steel and timber construction Module 4: Construction Project Cost Estimation and
Control: Cost estimation techniques in construction projects, Quantity takeoff and pricing of construction
materials, Cost control and monitoring in construction projects, Earned value management in construction
Text Books :1. Construction Project Management by Frederick Gould, Nancy Joyce 6th edition Pearson 2.
Construction Management by Daniel W. Halpin 5th edition Wiley 3 Construction Planning, Equipment by
Peurifoy, Robert 9th McGraw-Hill Education
Reference Books :1. Fundamentals of Building Construction by Edward Allen, Joseph Iano 7th edition

MOOCS :1. Construction Project Management by coursera 2. Construction Project Management Basics by
udemy
Course Rationale :Construction Project Management prepares students for a professional role in the
management of construction projects by providing students with an understanding of both the people-related
and technical requirements necessary for the successful management of projects, as well as their
organisational and strategic aspects. Course enables theoretical and conceptual exploration of construction
project management issues whilst also stressing the essential practical aspects such as project control
mechanisms, resource management, budgeting and cost management, stakeholder management, contract
management, IT applications and information management
Course Objectives :Construction project management is to manage and control the progress of construction
projects. The Construction Manager plans, coordinates, budgets, and supervises the project from start to
finish. They act on behalf of the owner, overseeing every stage of the project.
