AETA

Short and slender, the Aeta are also

dark-skinned; their typical height is
1.35 to 1.5 meters; their frame is
petite; their hair is kinky; and they
have large black eyes. Later migrants
are thought to have driven them into
the highlands and hinterlands of the
Philippines, where they are thought
to have been the country's earliest
settlers or aborigines.

AGTA

The Agta people are hunter

gather semi-nomads in the
East Quezon province in
Luzon. The Agta are going
through deculturation.
Multinational corporations
are moving onto land which
is limiting their hunting.
They are experiencing
language loss as well as
land loss. They are forced
to change their living style.
Some have been put on
ATI

The Ati are a Philippines

Negrito ethnic group in the
Visayas, the central portion
of the Philippine
archipelago. Their small
numbers are principally
concentrated in the islands
of Boracay, Panay and
Negros. They are
genetically related to other
Negrito ethnic groups in the
Philippines such as the

BAGOBO

The Bagobo do not seem to differ greatly

from other Malays in appearance. They are
short and slim, broad-headed and of a light
reddish-brown complexion. These
characteristics are said to be common to all
the tribes about the Gulf of Davao; though
individuals are found, especially toward
the interior, who show marked traces of
intermarriage with Negritos. The Atá, to
the north and northeast of the Bagobo,
have been called Negritos by some
observers; and there are said to be Pygmies
in the Samal Islands of the Gulf.
BATAK

The Batak live in the forests of

northern Palawan in the western
Philippines. They depend on a varied
BICOLANO

Bicolano people are largely an

agricultural and rural people, producing
rice, coconuts, hemp, and spices. A
great majority of Bicolanos are Roman
Catholics, with many towns celebrating
festivals in honor of patron saints, and
Catholic Mass being celebrated daily in
many of the Bicol region's churches.
There also exists minority Protestant
and Muslim populations among
Bicolano people

BUKIDNON

Bukidnon is home to a wealth of traditions and is

abounding in cultural, artistic and aesthetic
heritage. The oral folk literature of Bukidnon are
the: Olaging (ethno-epic about the adventures of
Agyu, the culture hero of Bukidnon), Idangdang
(ballads/ songs that tell stories), Bayok-bayok
(verses), Antoka (riddles), Basahan (proverbs or
HANUNUO

Hanunoo communities are usually

built in valleys and are often
situated to overlook nearby
streams. The villages are small,
with only five or six homes and no
more than fifty people. Houses are
made of wood and bamboo and
have thatched roofs. The homes,
which are built on stilts, are
sometimes arranged in rows so
that the verandahs connect to each
other.

IFUGAO
The Ifugao people are the ethnic group
inhabiting Ifugao Province. They reside in the
municipalities of Lagawe (capital of Ifugao),
Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista, Asipulo, Banaue,
Hingyon, Hungduan, Kiangan, Lamut,
Mayoyao, and Tinoc. The province is one of
the smallest provinces in the Philippines with
an area of only 251,778 hectares, or about
0.8% of the total Philippine land area.[2] As of
1995, the population of the Ifugaos was
counted to be 131,635. Although the majority
of them are still in Ifugao province, some of
them have moved to Baguio, where they work
as woodcarvers, and to other parts of the
Cordillera Region.[2]

ILOCANO

The Ilocano diaspora spans nearly all parts of

the Philippines, as well as places in the
Western world, particularly Hawaii and
California. Emigration was caused by dense
population pressures in a region with limited
agricultural potential. The Ilocos Region is one
of the most densely populated regions in the
Philippines. Agricultural production is not
sufficient to meet local needs, thus, much of
the population historically went into the labor
market and interregional trade. Tobacco is the
leading cash crop of the Ilocano people. The
textile industry in the area has a long tradition,
while fishing is second only to agricultural
production.
