I - Part One – Rules to Understand:
Adjectives
Adjectives are words that modify, or add to and clarify the meaning of, nouns and
pronouns.
Adjectives describe people, places, or things by telling what kind, how many, or which
one.
what kind: size – shape – color – appearance – qualities -etc…
how many: numbers such as: five – ten – hundred – thirty, & words such as: many –
several – some – few – etc.
which one: this – that – these – those
An adjective usually comes before the word it modifies.
What Kind: a gigantic white iceberg
How Many: numerous icebergs; several chances
Which One: this lifeboat
The articles a, an, and the appear before nouns or other adjectives.
Use a before words that begin with a consonant sound: a disaster, a rapid speed.
Use an before words that begin with a vowel sound or a silent h: an ending, an eerie
noise.
Use the before words beginning with any letter: the site, the passengers.

Comparative & Superlative Adjectives
Comparative adjectives are used to compare two people, places, things, or groups.
Add -er to most short adjectives to make their comparative forms.
Use more with longer adjectives.
Superlative adjectives are used to compare three or more people, places, things, or groups.
Add -est to most short adjectives to make their superlative forms.
Use most with longer adjectives.
