Cad Lab Report 06

This lab report provides an overview of key 2D sketching commands like move, copy, rotate, scale, and stretch. It also covers important 3D modeling features such as revolve and revolve cut. Specifically, it explains how to: 1) Use the move command to shift sketch entities, copy command to duplicate geometry, and rotate command to change orientation around an axis. 2) Employ the scale command to uniformly resize selections and stretch command to adjust length while maintaining shape. 3) Generate 3D features using the revolve command to spin a profile around an axis, and revolve cut to subtract material by revolving a cutting profile.

Lab Report 06

Objective
To practice the move, copy, rotate, scale and sketch commands in 2d sketch mode and to
practice revolve and revolve cut command in 3 dimensional feature with a basic 3d drawing.

Experimental Overview:
This experiment seeks to delve into and gain hands-on experience with essential 2D and 3D
modeling commands within SolidWorks. The focus includes practicing commands such as Move, Copy,
Rotate, Scale, and Stretch in 2D sketch mode, along with exploring the application of Revolve and
Revolve Cut in the realm of 3D dimensional features.

2D sketch Commands:
The 2D sketch command in SolidWorks (or other similar CAD software) allows users to
create the foundational shapes and geometry that form the basis of a 3D model. Here's an explanation of
the key aspects of the 2D sketch command:
Move Command:
The Move function empowers users to shift sketch entities within a 2D sketch. Begin by
opening a sketch, choose the desired entities, and then access the Move command from the toolbar.
Specify the displacement by either indicating a specific distance or dragging the entities to their intended
location.

Copy Command:
The Copy feature duplicates selected sketch entities, replicating the chosen geometry. While in
a sketch, select the entities you wish to copy, activate the Copy command, specify the destination, and
position the duplicated entities in the desired location.

Rotate Command:
Rotating adjusts the orientation of sketch entities around a specified axis or point. Initiate the
Rotate command, pick the relevant entities, designate the rotation axis/point, and either input the desired
angle or drag to achieve the desired rotation.
Scale Command:
Scaling uniformly alters the size of selected sketch entities. While in a sketch, choose the
entities you want to scale, access the Scale command, specify the scaling factor, and apply the adjustment
to resize the selected geometry uniformly.

Stretch Command:
Stretching facilitates the adjustment of the length of sketch entities while preserving their overall
shape. To utilize the Stretch command, activate it, choose the entities for modification, and then modify
the length by either dragging specific points or defining distance.
3 Dimensional features:
"3-dimensional features" refer to aspects or components of a design that exist in the third dimension,
adding depth to a model. In the context of SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software, these features
typically include extrusions, cuts, revolves, fillets, chamfers, and other operations that create or modify
geometry in three-dimensional space. The application of these features allows the creation of complex
and detailed 3D models in engineering, architecture, product design, and various other fields.

1. Revolve Command:
The Revolve function generates 3D features by rotating a 2D sketch around an axis, forming solid
bodies. Begin with a 2D sketch, activate the Revolve command, specify the axis of rotation, and set the
angle or opt for a full revolution to craft a complete and solid object.

2. Revolve Cut:
The Revolve Cut in 3D modeling involves using the SolidWorks software to subtract or cut away material
from an existing 3D shape. Here's an explanation of how to perform a Revolve Cut on a 3-dimensional
features:
1. Open or Create a Part:
Start by opening an existing part or creating a new one in SolidWorks.
2. Create a 2D Sketch:
Generate a 2D sketch representing the profile that will be used to cut the 3D solid. This sketch defines
the shape and dimensions of the cut.
3. Exit Sketch Mode:
Once the sketch is complete, exit the sketch mode to proceed with the feature creation.
4. Access Revolve Cut Feature:
Click on the "Revolve Cut" feature in the Features toolbar. This command is usually found in the same
toolbar where you access other 3D features.
5. Select the Sketch Entity:
Choose the sketch entity (profile) you want to use for the cut. This is the shape that will be revolved
around an axis to create the cut feature.
6. Define Revolve Parameters:
In the Revolve Cut PropertyManager, specify the following parameters:

 Axis: Select the axis around which the cut will revolve.
 Start Angle: Specify the starting angle of the cut.
 End Angle: Specify the ending angle of the cut.
 Merge Tangent Faces: Choose whether to merge tangent faces created by the cut.
 Tool Body: Select the solid body that will be used as the cutting tool.

7. Click OK to Create the Cut:

Confirm the Revolve Cut operation by clicking OK. This action will execute the cut based on the
defined parameters, resulting in the creation of the cut feature.
Performing a Revolve Cut in a 3-dimensional feature is a powerful way to shape and modify existing 3D
models in SolidWorks, providing precision and control over the design.
