parliamentary style:
3V3
Each speaker speaks for 7 minutes
1st and 6th minute are protected from POIs (Points of
Information)
Bell rings at 1, 6, 7 and 7.15
Reply speeches aka "final attack/resolution" are 4
minutes (by 1st or 2nd speaker)
Bell rings at 3, 4 and 4.15
There are two sides: GOVERNEMENT and OPPOSITION

1. Explain what they're debating about/


what's happening/ the context of the
situation.
2. Give definition based on context
3. Establish stance.

1. Define/ contextualize if they disagree
with the prime minister's contextual
definition.
2. Reframe the context (if needed)
3. Think about what arguments are
hurting you the most and how can you
rebut them?
roles (2nd speaker gov): deputy prime
minister
1. Remind the adjudicators/audience
what are they defending.
2. Defend 1st speaker of GOV after
arguments by LOP
3. Extend the team's case.

1. SETTLE the debate.

debate/certain arguments
3. No new arguments allowed. New
rebuttals to existing ideas are accepted
however.
4. Best way to differentiate is to ask
whether or not their teammate has
already explained what they're talking
about.

IN CLASS COMPETITION: WEEK 3 (4 APRIL - 8 APRIL 2022)


ROUND 1:PRELIMINARY
3 or 4 members per group (to be done during prep time)
Draw lots to pick side (GOV or OPP)
Each member will speak about 3 minutes max. No reply
speeches required for this round.
Only 1 best speaker will be chosen to team up with speakers
from other classes for semi-final.

MOTION LOWER SECONDARY

FORM 2: This house believes that homework should be banned.

FORM 3: This house believes that playing video games increase IQ levels.

FORM 4: In a post-Covid society, this house prefers the continuation of


online classes over face-to-face classes.

FORM 5: This house would make voting compulsory.

divided into 4 teams for semi-final.

SEMI-FINAL: 11th MAY 2022 (WEDNESDAY)

FINAL: 16th MAY 2022 (MONDAY)


how should you
prepare?
1. Understand the motion.
2. Think about the arguments for both sides; as GOV
and as OPP; support or against the motion.
3. When you do your research/pick information from
Google, choose carefully. Make sure the
points/examples taken are relevant to the motion.
4. Ask your respective teacher if you are unsure.
