We are excited to introduce the new High Performance Display Unit along with Version 3.03
Software on the Engström Carestation. You will see enhanced performance in the user interface,
increasing the responsiveness of the display as the user moves through its functionality. This new
display is required for version 3.03 software to work on the Engström Carestation. All new
Engström orders shipped after March 10, 2006 include the high performance display unit and
version 3.03 software.
Version 3.03 Features
There are several new additions and changes made to the Engström Carestation in this version of
the software. These include:
• A Standby / Start Ventilation hard key has been added to the new display unit. This allows
the user to access a new Standby menu and increases the ease by which the user can
place the ventilator either into standby or to start the ventilator.
• The 100% O2 button label has been changed to an up arrow O2 shown in the attached
photo . This is to prepare for an added capability when the neonatal version is
released. This label change does not alter the functionality of this feature.
• In the VCV mode the Plimit quick key is being replaced with the Pmax setting. The Plimit
will remain available but only in the Vent Setup menu.
• A cursor selection has been added to the Spirometry menu. When cursor is selected the
current spirometry loop will freeze on the screen and a cursor will appear within the loop.
Scrolling the cursor across the loop will provide specific readings of either pressure; volume
or flow (depending on the type of loop being displayed) at the point the cursor crosses the
loop. Readings will also be provided for a reference loop if displayed.
• The Low Minute Volume alarm range is reduced from 0.3 L/min to 0.1 L/min
• In the volume modes, when the flow setting is active, the I:E ratio has been expanded to
allow increased flexibility in making flow and timing settings.
• The Monitoring Only feature is re-enabled in this software version.
• New calculations have been added to various quick keys and mini-field windows to assist in
understanding certain ventilator parameter settings. These include:
o In BiLevel – Thigh and Tlow quick key settings now show the set rate
o In VCV when Tinsp is active the Rate quick key will show the I:E ratio
o In VCV when Tinsp or I:E and Flow are active, adjusting the flow setting will cause
the measured Tpause to be displayed in the mini-field
o In VCV when Tpause and Flow are active the Flow quick key will display the I:E
ratio

Language Kits
When ordering the field upgrade kit you must order one language kit for every upgrade kit ordered.
The Language Kit provides the keypad overlay for the display unit and a users reference manual in
the specified language. If you do not order a language kit for each upgrade kit there will not be a
keypad overlay for the display. The following table provides a listing of the language kits and their
respective part numbers.

New User Reference Manuals
New User Reference Manuals (URM) have been developed to support the release of version 3.03
software. All of the manuals have new part numbers. When ordering the upgrade kits along with
the language kit you do NOT need to order new manuals as they are included in the language kit.
The pocket guides are not included and need to be ordered separately.
