Installing ViBE Firmware onto a Virtual Machine

Requirements
Before you start, please ensure that:

o A suitable server running VMware ESXi (version 5.1 or higher)

o The VMware vSphere client installed and running on your PC
o Public IP Addresses routed to your ESXi Server for use on your ViBE Server once installed

Step-by-Step Procedure

o Navigate in a web browser to http://portal.vibesupport.com

o Register (if you haven’t already), and then once logged in click the ViBE Setup button.
o Then choose Initial Setup for ViBE VMware VM.

To Download the files from us, you will need click the link that says:
- Please open a Support Ticket to request the ViBE VMware VM Image

When you have received this file from us, save it to your PC and extract the ZIP file, as you will need
the contents to hand in the next few steps.

1) Connect to the host machine using vSphere.

3) Select the OVF file to deploy.

4) Go through the setup wizard and accept all the default options. Once the OVF file has

The virtual server is called ‘ViBE Appliance’.

You now need to configure the WAN interface IP address and default Gateway of the ViBE
server.

6) Select the Console tab to access the virtual machine.

7) Click on the console window to access the command prompt and login with the details
below. (To get out of the console window press ‘Ctrl-Alt’.)

Username: root
Password: vmwarev1b3

The default gateway and IP address now need to be configured so that the server can be accessed via
the internet.

To configure the IP address, enter the command:

ifconfig eth0 public.ip.address netmask netmask

For example:
ifconfig eth0 188.146.156.101 netmask 255.255.255.0

The default gateway now needs to be configured. Use the following command:
route add default gw default.gateway.ip.address

The ViBE server can now be accessed via the Web browser.

8) Go to a web browser and enter the public IP address of the ViBE server.

9) Enter the default login details:

Username: admin
Password: vmwarev1b3

Once you have logged in you need to configure the WAN network to have the IP address previously
configured in the console window (this is because all settings configured in the web browser take
precedence over those configured on the command line). All settings configured via the command line
will be overwritten by the browser-based settings once any of them are changed. Therefore the WAN
IP address needs to be configured immediately to prevent loss of access via the internet.

Licences
Any new VMware installations benefit from a valid evaluation license for 60 days. Unlimited licences
are also available free on the VMware website:

For ESXi Hypervisor 5: https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/p/landing.php?p=free-esxi5

For ESXi Hypervisor 6: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6

You can register an account for free. Once you have done this, login to your account and you will then
be provided with a licence key as well as download links for vSphere and ESXi

Once you have received your licence, you will need to apply it to the host machine. This needs
to be done in vSphere.

1) Select your host machine (not the ViBE appliance).

2) Go to ‘Configuration—Licence Features’ and click ‘Edit’ on the far-right of that window.

The edit window will pop up as shown below.
