Waterfall Project Management

The Waterfall method was developed in 1970 and involves gathering requirements up front, then progressing through sequential phases from design to implementation to testing. Each phase cascades into the next in a linear fashion. It requires extensive upfront planning, clear requirements, and flexibility is limited since progressing to the next phase depends on completing the previous one. Benefits include a structured approach and fixed goals and budget, while a disadvantage is difficulty handling unexpected issues since phases cannot be revisited.

The Waterfall method was developed by Winston W. Royce in 1970.

With a waterfall
method, requirements from customers and stakeholders are gathered at the start of the
project, after which a sequential project plan is made to take those requirements into
account. The project's various phases cascade into one another, descending smoothly like a
waterfall, earning the waterfall model its name. (Hoory and Bottorff, 2023). Simply explained,
the traditional waterfall approach in project management is ordered and we can do it in a
sequential approach to managing projects.in the waterfall approach activities or tasks are
broken down into several separate phases(Thesing, Et al.,2021).

The waterfall framework requires good and proper planning, and it is very important that all
parties or stakeholders in that project be aware of and agree upon the project's requirements
from the outset of the project. It is also very important that all team member needs to
understand their role in the project and what that role entails. The project is planned
holistically from beginning to end with work packages, responsibilities, and deadlines so that
it may be "worked through" in a goal- and plan-oriented manner. The basic plan is being
implemented as exactly as is practical. This offers organisation, stability, reliable resources,
and written plans. (Thesing, Et al.,2021)

The waterfall technique takes an efficient approach. To form the moves consistently and
proficiently, it accentuates a clear stream of data at each arrangement. When this advantage
gets connected in non-traditional settings like software advancement, at that point an unused
gather of people are entering into the extend. Each person will have a much better chance of
remaining on the same page in case the extended lifecycle is reported at each stage. When
utilizing the waterfall approach, having to get to as clean and exact of data as conceivable
takes priority. That produces it easier for modern group individuals to quickly capture up.
(Hoory and Bottorff, 2023).

The Waterfall approach has several benefits, The Waterfall method's concepts are simple to
comprehend, the project stages are well-defined laid out, and the project has a high degree
of structure. The Waterfall technique, which is fully documented and provides a high level of
control, necessitates extensive planning for each project step.( Osorio, Et al.,2011).

One of the benefits of the waterfall framework is that the project goals are specific and set
from the beginning, so the schedule and budget are fixed. Once project goals are
established( Hoory and Bottorff, 2023), makes it less demanding for project supervisors to
arrange and communicate with partners and trade accomplices. Whereas this makes a
difference with planning, it is as it were viable if the client encompasses a clear and strong
conclusion goal and doesn't have to be included within the venture improvement handle.

Disadvantages
One of the downsides of this waterfall method is that managing with unforeseen issues can
be troublesome and time-consuming. Since each stage as it started when the one sometime
recently is total, waterfall administration restricts you as a venture director from returning to
an earlier arrangement and the as it were way to go back to a stage is to begin the venture
at stage one. (Hoory and Bottorff, 2023).
