FOREWORD
This guide includes information about the installation and use of the Kodak
dental imaging software version 6 on a computer running Windows 2000 or XP
(for more information please refer to the online help) with:
- the RVG 5000 and 6000 sensors
- the Kodak 1000 intraoral video camera
TM
- the Kodak 8000 digital panoramic unit and the Digipan (digital panoramic)

These are class I devices according to the appendix VII of the 93/42/EEC
standard about medical appliances. Their EC marking proves their compliance
with the main requirements of this directive.

This system is completely modular: you are therefore able to use the Kodak dental
imaging software with the RVG 5000 and 6000 sensors, the Kodak 1000 intraoral
TM
video camera, the Kodak 8000 digital panoramic unit or the Digipan or a
combination of these devices.

This user guide contains 5 main topics:

- Software installation
- Patient file
- Main functions
- Acquisition of images
- Using the online help

All the functions of the Kodak dental imaging software are explained in the electronic
manual (the online help). Use of the online help is described in this document.

Patient management software linked to the Kodak dental imaging

software
When the Kodak dental imaging software is used in combination with practice
management software, this software will use its own patient database. The patient
database of the Kodak dental imaging software will in this case disappear. You
will only use the imaging module of the Kodak dental imaging software.

More detailed information on how to link third party patient management software to
the Kodak dental imaging software imaging module can be found on the CD-Rom in
the D:\OEM directory (D is the letter assigned to your CD-Rom drive and can be
different depending on your configuration).
Registered trademarks

RVG RadioVisioGraphie, Digipan and Trophy are registered trademarks owned by

the Eastman Kodak Company. Microsoft, MS-DOS and Windows are trademarks or
registered trademarks owned by the Microsoft Corporation. Other product names
mentioned in this guide are only used for identification purposes and may be
trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners.

Conditions of guarantee
For a complete and detailed overview of the warranty terms and conditions
applicable to the software, please refer to the text that is displayed on-screen
during installation of this program.
System requirements
The minimum configuration requested for the software installation is:

DirectX 9.0b is available on the CD-Rom, in the D:\DirectX9 directory. If you do not
possess the Adobe Acrobat Reader software to display the PDF files on the CD-Rom,
you can install it from the D:\Acrobat directory on the CD-Rom (D is the letter
assigned to your CD-Rom drive and can be different depending on your
configuration).

Data security

The radiological images contain information too valuable to lose (due to hard disk
failure for example).

The database should be backed up daily on different magnetic high-capacity storage

media (streamer, ZIP, DAT…) used alternately (refer to your computer dealer for
more detailed information). The copies should be kept in a safe place.
SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
Start the installation program
1) Insert the Kodak dental imaging software CD-Rom in the CD-Rom drive.

2) Wait for the installation program to start. If the autorun does not work, click on

MAIN SCREEN OF THE IMAGING MODULE
The imaging module of the Kodak dental imaging software allows you to manage all
the images relating to your dental practice and to manipulate the images to help
diagnosis. The images of all digital Kodak equipment are acquired and manipulated
in the imaging module.

images.

- The control panel: the functions of the control panel vary depending on the type of
image that is selected on-screen, and allows you to manipulate the images to
visualize all the information contained in the different areas of the image.
MAIN FUNCTIONS
Saving and opening images, as well as the acquisition and printing of these can
be managed from the main toolbar.

screen pixel). Double-click directly on the image or right-click in the image and
select Full Screen (Actual Size) in the contextual menu. This is not a zoom
function, as the image is displayed at its actual size and with full resolution.

template, by using the printer(s) defined in the Preferences. Refer to the online help
for further information.

CAUTION: The printer needs to be recognized by Windows.

Importing/Exporting non-Kodak digital images
Any digital image acquired by non-Kodak equipment can be imported, if saved in a
standard graphics format (such as TIFF, BMP, JPG…), and managed together with
the Kodak images.

These images can come from a multitude of different equipment, such as scanners,
digital cameras and video cameras, operating microscopes, images from colleagues
and clinics…

Any Kodak image can be exported in different standard graphical formats (such as
TIFF, BMP or JPG) for exchange with non-Kodak systems.

ACQUISITION OF A RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGE
Once the patient record has been selected and the Imaging icon activated, you
access the Imaging module of the Kodak dental imaging software. The acquisition
of different types of images is now possible, depending on the equipment installed
on the computer.

Acquisition of an intra-oral image

There are two possible situations when acquiring an intra-oral image:

If a Kodak timer is linked to the computer (synchronization link) it is possible to

acquire a new image at all times as long as the sensor is in the area covered by the
CAUTION X-rays. The acquisition icon is constantly green.
This icon is

displays the 90 second countdown on screen. If this delay has elapsed before the
X-rays are dispatched, you need to activate the icon once again.

A dose indicator is displayed at the bottom of the control panel, for each RVG
6000 and RVG 5000 image. This dose indicator visualizes the quality of the
image exposure.

- If the dose indicator band is displayed in red and towards the left of the band, it
indicates an under-exposure of the image. Increase the X-ray dose.
- If the dose indicator band is displayed in red and towards the right of the band, it
indicates an over-exposure of the image. Decrease the X-ray dose. Certain areas
of the image can be saturated, but depending on the areas of interest in the image,
the image can nevertheless contain desired information, for instance in the areas
that are denser.
- If the dose indicator band is displayed in green and anywhere in the middle of the
band, it indicates a correct exposure of the image.
If an RVG 5 Ultimate Imaging sensor is connected to the computer, two icons
for the acquisition of intra-oral images are available:
