By reading the text, I understand that the games were delayed because of COVID-19. The risk
would be too high if the games were continued with the virus going around. Someone could
arrive to the games with the virus and spread it to the whole entire stadium. I agree with them to
postpone the games because having tons of crowds of people is way too dangerous if someone
has the virus.

The motto of the Olympic Games is, “Swifter, Higher, Stronger.”

In the cartoon, I see the motto and 3 people doing different types of Olympic sports. Or,
representing what each sport needs. Swiftness, leaping ability, and being strong. Then, in the
corner, there is a man holding a sign that says that the games are going to be postponed.
Above the man is wording that is “alike” to the motto. It says “Safer, smarter, later.”.

4. As you see it, what might the cartoonist be saying about the postponement about of the 2020
Summer Olympic Games?

I think that the cartoonist is trying to say that it is a pity that the Olympics were canceled. The
people on the left of the cartoon are representing the excitement for the games while on the
bottom right it shows the despair when the games were announced to be canceled.
