1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The potential customers, will benefit from the study because it will provide relevant
information and shed light on our goods. We have determined the challenges individuals
confront before we develop a prototype for our product. After that, we devised the concept by
surveying 67 participants, most of whom were students at UiTM Jengka. We will be able to
construct the prototype following the demands of the consumers as well as the findings of the
market study if the survey is successful. Following our brainstorming, we discovered several
issues that need to be addressed.
To begin, many students at Uitm Jengka and other university students do not have access
to a mode of transportation. Therefore they are required to walk to class. Students at UiTM also
fall into the B40 category, and as a result, students do not have strong finances to purchase their
own transportation. In addition, the university also does not provide students with transportation.
When students are running late for class, this mode of transportation will come in handy. In
addition, students do not want to be late for class if their lecturer strictly follows the rules of
discipline. Unless they have a compelling reason to do so, they have no intention of attending the
class. Consequently, a significant number of students will be absent in that scenario. In addition,
students have voiced their dissatisfaction that when they buy anything online and it comes time
to pick up the parcel, it is located a significant distance from their residence. They have to walk
for one or two kilometres only to take it. Although walking is a great exercise, taking it requires
significant time.
According to the survey's findings, the overwhelming majority of respondents expressed
a strong desire for this New Product Development (NPD) to be produced in Uitm Jengka. We
were able to come up with a solution to this challenge, which involves generating a blue map
through the use of SMART BICYCLE RENT SERVICE. This product is new to UiTM Jengka,
and this firm is now offering a new service line. Students can use this service to go to class or
any other activities by scanning the QR Code on their bicycles. If customers download the
MECYCLE APPS, it will drive them to more convenient and efficient methods. The blueprint
that we developed will be given to the administration of Uitm Jengka, and we are hoping that
they will agree with these services and provide the best possible service to the students of Uitm
Jengka

2.0 INTRODUCTION
Technological advancements today not only provide amusement but also guarantee a
more effective and time-saving method of completing various tasks. Technology has become one
of the most significant parts of everybody’s life. Technologies have been used in all areas of
society, from healthcare and transportation to learning and instruction. Creating a new product or
improving an existing one is known as "new product development," or bringing a product to
market. As a result, we designed a service we call Smart Rental Bicycle Services, complete with
its own mobile app. Bicycle rental services, also known as bike sharing services, are all about
renting bicycles. For short trips, bike-sharing schemes provide a low-effort, environmentally
friendly mode of transportation. This service was established so students and staff on campus
would have an easier time moving quickly and conveniently to the desired location. This service
is intended to make it easier for students and staff to move around the campus, reduce pollution,
and improve health. This service is only available in the college or campus area and can't be used
anywhere else. This is to make it easier for students and staff to get to classes and other places on
campus. This plan is a smart bike rental scheme with GPS tracking, QR scanning, and online
payment integrated into a single Android application. Additionally, it contains an umbrella for
each bike and a solar charging connection for smartphones and tablets. This system also has an
administration website where all user and bike information, history, and payments are recorded
for security purposes.
4
Problem statements:
1. Most students lack transportation to class and campus. Many students don't have
their own way of getting around, even if they know how to drive or already have a
licence. Even if a student already has a driver's licence, they don't want to bring a car
because getting permission from the college takes a long time. Also, if they have their
own car, students can't use it to go to class or anywhere else on campus. They can use it
outside the college, though. So, students are more likely to choose not to bring their own
cars.
2. Getting to a class or a college location takes time and energy. If a student doesn't
have a car, he or she will walk to class or around the college area. The distance from the
dorm to the class or lecture is quite far, so it will take time to get there. Not only that, but
they waste their energy, which makes students tired and worn out.
4. High price. Expensive van transportation charges affect students because most
students are not wealthy and do not have a consistent income.
5
Methodology
We are utilising Google Forms to conduct surveys and get customer feedback for this
new product development project. This method was chosen so that we could accurately assess
how our clients felt about the introduction of our Smart Rental Bicycle Services and map out our
future strategies. Therefore, we must consider potential customers' feedback and ideas to refine
and improve our product. Our poll for developing new products received the most responses
from students and faculty members at educational institutions. Since we are not solely concerned
with UITM students and staff, we have used the Whatsapp app to share the provided Google
Form link with other university community members. The survey asks questions about the
conceptualization of brand-new products. The survey has elicited a total of 67 responses from
participants so far. Because of the survey's findings, we'll be able to adjust our services to suit
their requirements better.
Limitations
Although this data collection process was carefully prepared, there were still limitations
and shortcomings. This was because of several constraints, such as limited time and difficulty
locating respondents for the survey sessions. The survey was conducted on a modest scale, with
only 67 respondents participating. Given the limited sample size, the data reported cannot be
taken as universal representations of the phenomenon. To accomplish this goal, a higher sample
size is required. On the other hand, there is still a lack of updated information, and some
information is not found to develop this product. Limited knowledge about QR code systems,
mobile apps, and solar charging ports should also be one of the restrictions on building a project
like ours. We should only be able to build on what we've read and learned in this field. Next,
time constraints are also one of the limitations to completing this service because the
development process takes longer. Because the Smart Bike itself has components that take time
to complete, such as automatic umbrellas and solar charging ports. Another potential barrier is a
lack of funding, as developing a product like this can be expensive, both in terms of hiring
developers who are experts in designing the Smart Bicycle, QR codes, and mobile applications
and in terms of purchasing the equipment they would need.

3.0 NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
3.1 Definition
New product development can be described as the process of introducing a new product
to the market. Rental bicycle service is already available in Malaysia, but the company that
created the service focuses more on public places than the university. Since there is no
smart-bicycle service available in most universities in Malaysia for students right now, there is a
need to develop this service in the university and add some innovations to that service.
7
3.3 New Product Development Process
New process development (NPD) is comprised of a few important processes, which are:
1. Idea generation
The inspiration for this project came from our own experience of the need to walk to
class every day. Our residence is quite far from class buildings, and it takes a long time to get
there. Also, it makes us tired when arriving at class, and we need to get ready for class 1 hour
earlier than the actual time. Moreover, most students on our campus also do not have
transportation and face the same problems as us. The available transportation, such as student
vans, is limited, and students must compete for a seat. The cost will become burdensome if used
daily, especially for us students. As a result, this bike rental service idea was born. What's more
intriguing is that we want to use technology to innovate and improve the bike, bringing it more in
line with the advancement of technology and smart transportation.
8
2. Idea screening
For idea screening, we do some research on the internet about the rental bicycle service
and identify the strengths, weaknesses, and deficiencies of the existing service. We found a few
companies that provide this service, including MYBYK, CycleDios, and LinkBike. Each
company has its own strengths and weaknesses, and we compared each service to improve our
concept and idea.
● MYBYK
As India's first and largest bike-sharing app, MYBYK is committed to providing
environmentally friendly options for local transportation. They intend to Restore Urban
Livability by reintroducing Smart Bikes suitable for riders of all ages and genders.
Strengths Weaknesses
9
● CycleDios
CycleDios are one of Malaysia’s smart bike rental companies that emphasises family
activities and relaxation. Their services are designed to serve and facilitate the local community,
specifically the recreation park, garden, seaside, and tourism sector.
Strengths Weaknesses
10
● LinkBike
LinkBike BSS, operated by FAST RENT BIKE (PG) Sdn. Bhd. is a Penang Island City
Council (MBPP) initiative to make Penang an international city like Melbourne, Amsterdam,
Tokyo, and others. MBPP collaborates closely with the operator to establish 25 strategic
locations in George Town, Queensbay, and Straits Quay. Anyone can pick up a bike from any 25
stations and return it to another. To release the bicycle, simply scan the QR Code. These bikes
are used as short-distance transit vehicles to reduce or replace the use of motor vehicles, avoid
traffic congestion, and reduce environmental pollution.
Strengths Weaknesses
11
3. Market survey
12
This survey found that 64.2% of students do not have transportation to class, and 35.8%
have it. The transportation used by students is motorcycles, cars, and bicycles. However, for
those who do not have transportation, 78% choose to go to class by walking, and 11.9% choose
to use the bus and other transportation. For those who walk, 66.2% said it takes 10-15 minutes to
arrive at class, and 29.2% stated 20-30 minutes.
13
Besides that, we also got 23.9% to respond that their university already has a rental
bicycle service, and 76.1% still need it. Those who ever used bicycle rental service stated that
they faced some difficulty in that service, with the expensive rental price as the main problem
(68.3%). However, there are still other problems, such as the payment method (41.3%), bad
service maintenance (44.4%), and lost time and missed opportunities (42.9%).
14
Because we want to make innovations in our service, we ask the respondents what smart
features they prefer on smart-bicycle rentals. The majority of the respondents choose bicycle rent
apps (67.7%), online payment methods and QR codes (64.6%), solar charger ports (35.4%), and
umbrellas (40%). So, from this result, we applied it to our bikes.
15
According to the survey, 91% of respondents need this service in their university as their
transportation, and 9% do not. About 86.6% are willing to pay RM2 to RM3 for this service, and
the rest are willing to pay around RM4 to RM7.
In conclusion, by doing this market survey, we got to know our market problems and
preferences more accurately than before. The information and responses we got helped us make
a decision precisely. Therefore, we intend to innovate the designs of our smart-bike service based
on respondents' liking, such as bicycle rental apps, various payment methods, automatic foldable
umbrellas, GPS trackers, solar charger ports, and other add-on smart features.
16
3.3.2 Product Design/Features
For our smart bicycle, we provide solar phone chargers as a convenience for our
consumers. A solar phone charger is a portable device that converts photovoltaic solar energy
into electrical energy for use with smartphones and tablets. These solar devices have a charging
capacity of hundreds of amps per hour and can charge batteries up to 48 volts (V). They usually
include a smart charge controller.
Solar energy operates in one way a solar panel charges a rechargeable battery, then
charges the mobile phone. This means that the phone can be charged even when there is no
sunlight, such as at night, as long as the battery has been charged during the day. Internal
Lithium-ion batteries (such as the Suntrica or the Ipower) or removable AA NiCads or NiMHs
can be used (e.g., the Powerfilm USB charger or the Violetta). As a result, students who use this
17
bicycle rental service will be able to charge their phones even during cycling, especially when
they do not have a power bank.
Through our apps, we offer online payment methods via FPX for consumers. In the
digital age, online transactions have become more common. Since the pandemic’s arrival, it has
accelerated digitization in virtually every field, including business. Both consumers and business
owners benefit from online transactions. This is because online transaction payment systems
allow for instant payment verification. Customers are not required to send proof of payment
manually. As a result, a business owner is not required to record it manually. This process can
help to reduce errors caused by human error, such as incorrectly entering buyer data or losing
records due to damaged files.
We use online payment through FPX because it is a simple and secure online payment
solution that allows customers’ internet banking accounts from multiple banks to be debited in
real-time. It also allows banks to credit merchant accounts immediately and directly. The FPX
service is appropriate for any business that sells products or services over the internet. The FPX
service makes e-commerce a reality for all retailers and merchants by making payments simple
and easy. All payments are made online and in real-time, making the services as good as cash.Fu
rthermore, it generates payment records, simplifies reconciliation, and lowers risk
18
● Automatic Umbrella
We also added an automatic umbrella to our smart bicycle. It will help our consumers to
face poor weather conditions. Today's most common umbrella fabrics are nylon, polyester, and
pongee. These fabrics are extremely water-resistant and UV resistant. However, we use nylon for
our product because many umbrella designs use nylon as a fabric. After all, it is lightweight
compared to satin fabrics, and nylon is also a more affordable fabric for umbrella production.
Among other umbrella fabrics, nylon is the most popular. Nylon is impermeable to water
and can block UV rays when tightly woven. The material is light and pliable. The majority of
umbrellas today are made of nylon. The nylon material is strong and resilient, as well as air and
water. It quickly dries after being exposed to water. Nylon umbrella materials are soft and have a
silky feel to them. When the umbrellas rub against other surfaces, there is usually no friction or
abrasion.
19
● Gps tracker
Gps tracker is also provided on our smart bicycle. Bicycle trackers are a new
technology that allows riders to find their bikes using an app. With thefts being an
unfortunate reality of bicycle ownership, a tracker could provide some peace of mind as
well as the ability to locate a bike. A bike tracker is a small device typically mounted on a
bicycle. Once installed, it can trace the device and notify if it has moved when the bike is
unattended. While prevention is always preferable to cure, a bike tracker may increase
the chances of being reunited if the bike were stolen. This feature also assists in the
self-drive technology we want to apply to our bicycles. It can track the user's location,
where they want to go and the total distance.
20
● Dash Cam
Our smart bicycle also comes out with a dashcam. The dash cams can record vehicle
accidents. Bike cameras are small and beautifully designed cameras that can capture HD footage
without weighing you down or making you look ungainly. When a bike ride goes wrong, a bike
camera can capture evidence. These cameras, like a car dash cam, will provide concrete evidence
if you are in a situation where you need it.
21
● Apps
We also provide apps for our service which can help our consumers to deal with our
service. Apps are one of the most important aspects of modern technology that constantly change
how consumers meet their needs. We can be certain that an app will make goods and services
more accessible and simple to use. Although the primary goal of an app is to interact with
consumers, this app assists users in enjoying our services. Keeping track of clients and their
information is, in any case, one of the most important aspects of providing quality customer
service. This app is the best way to show our clients how much we appreciate them and to keep
our customer service at its peak.
22
3.3.3 Concept Testing
Purpose
Sample population
The target group for this concept testing would-be university students who live on
campus. This target is the best fit for concept testing because they would use this service for their
own needs. This would enable them to voice their opinions and support the service.
Survey format
We asked a few questions about the service through the google form to the students who
live on campus and other university students via WhatsApp.

3.3.5 Test Marketing
We did an observation and interview with several UiTM Jengka students who
continued their education after dropping out of high school, as specified on the survey
questionnaire for the concept testing. There are three male students in total. Everyone
receives a concise introduction to the application and its capabilities in terms of
functionality. After then, the prototype is sent out to the students so that they can explore
interacting with it.
After the students had a chance to experiment with the prototype, they were
questioned about their overall impressions of the tool. Everyone expresses a positive
view of the prototype, praising its user-friendliness and remarking on its attractive App.
35
3.3.6 Customer Trend Canvas
36
4.0 CONCLUSION
As a result of the problem statement, it is clear that a major issue for many people,
particularly target customers and consumers, is most students' lack of transportation to class and
campus. Hence, the service can resolve all of their issues. The smart bicycle rental service has
the potential to become a novel product. This service has been enhanced to make a person's life
easier, and we hope it will persuade our target customers to utilise it.
