THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
In today's digital age, technology is ubiquitous in various
aspects of life, including education. In particular, technology
has become an essential tool in enhancing learning outcomes among
senior high school students. This research aims to examine the
role of technology in enhancing learning outcomes among ACLC
senior high school students and to provide supporting evidence
from two studies.
The first study that supports the claim is a meta-analysis
conducted by Means, Toyama, Murphy, Bakia, and Jones (2010), which
examined the effects of technology on learning outcomes in K-12
education. The study reviewed over 1,000 studies and found that
technology-enhanced instruction had a positive effect on student
achievement in various subject areas. The results suggest that
technology can enhance student learning outcomes by providing
access to diverse learning resources, promoting student
engagement, and improving learning efficiency.
The second study that supports the claim is a randomized
controlled trial conducted by Hsieh, Hwang, and Huang (2019),
which investigated the effectiveness of an educational app on
student learning outcomes in senior high school physics. The study
found that students who used the app had significantly higher test
scores and showed more interest in learning than those who
received traditional instruction. The results suggest that
educational apps can enhance student learning outcomes by
providing interactive and personalized learning experiences that
cater to individual learning styles and needs.
In line with these studies, this research aims to investigate
the role of technology in enhancing learning outcomes among ACLC
senior high school students. The study will explore the various
forms of technology that are available to students, such as online
resources, educational apps, and learning management systems, and
examine their impact on student engagement, learning outcomes, and
academic performance. The findings of this research can provide
valuable insights into the effectiveness of technology-based
instruction in senior high school education and inform the
development of future educational programs.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the role of technology in enhancing
learning outcomes among ACLC Senior High School students.
Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the Demographic profile of Aclc senior high school
students in knowing the following variables?
1.1 Age,
1.2 Sex, and
1.3 Academic track
1.4 Grade level
2. What is the current level of technology integration in the
ACLC Senior High School curriculum?
3. What is the relationship between technology integration and
academic performance among ACLC Senior High School students?
Scope & Delimitation of the study
The advancement of technology has transformed the way students
learn and how teachers teach. Technology has opened new doors for
educators to improve the learning experience of students. The
purpose of this study is to explore the role of technology in
enhancing learning outcomes among ACLC Senior High School
students. This study aims to investigate the impact of technology
on learning outcomes among ACLC Senior High School students. It
will focus on the use of technology in teaching and learning
activities, such as
online tools, multimedia resources, and educational software.
The study will also explore how technology affects student
engagement, motivation, and academic achievement. The target
respondents for this study are ACLC Senior High School students
from different strands and levels who have experienced using
technology in their learning activities. The participants should
have a background in using various forms of technology such as
computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. The data collection
for this study will be conducted for a period of four months, from
July to October 2023. During this period, data will be collected
through surveys, interviews, and observations. This study has some
limitations that should be acknowledged. Firstly, the study will
focus only on ACLC Senior High School students, which may limit
the generalization of the findings to other schools. Secondly, the
study will only explore the impact of technology on learning
outcomes and will not consider other factors that may affect
academic performance. Lastly, the study will rely on self-reported
data from students, which may be subject to biases and
limitations.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The integration of technology in education has become
increasingly important in today's digital age, particularly in
enhancing student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study is
to explore the role of technology in enhancing learning outcomes
among ACLC Senior High School students.
This study will provide several significant contributions to the
ACLC Senior High School community, including:
Senior high school students. The findings of this study will help
students understand the importance of technology integration in
enhancing their learning outcomes. The study will also identify
the most effective technology tools and resources that can help
them improve their academic performance.
Teachers. This study will provide insights to teachers on the
effectiveness of technology integration in enhancing student
learning outcomes. The study will also identify the challenges and
limitations of using technology in the classroom, allowing
teachers to address these issues and improve their teaching
methods.
Parents. The findings of this study will help parents understand
the benefits of technology integration in education and how it can
improve their children's academic performance. The study will also
provide recommendations for parents on how they can support their
children's learning through technology.
Future researchers. This study will contribute to the existing
body of knowledge on the impact of technology on education,
particularly in enhancing student learning outcomes. The study
will also identify areas for future research and provide
recommendations for further studies in this field.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
In this paper, we will discuss three theories that can be used
to understand the role of technology in enhancing learning
outcomes among ACLC Senior High School students.
The Cognitive Load Theory, proposed by John Sweller (1988),
states that learning is influenced by the amount of cognitive load
imposed on a learner's working memory. According to this theory,
students have a limited capacity for processing new information,
and if this capacity is exceeded, it can lead to cognitive
overload and hinder learning. This theory suggests that technology
can be used to reduce cognitive load and improve learning outcomes
by presenting information in a way that is easier to understand.
The Social Learning Theory, proposed by Albert Bandura
(1977), suggests that learning is a social process that involves
observing and imitating the behaviors of others. According to this
theory, technology can enhance learning outcomes by providing
opportunities for collaborative learning and social interaction.
For example, online forums, chat rooms, and social media platforms
can be used to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and encourage
active participation.
The Constructivism Theory, proposed by Jean Piaget and Lev
Vygotsky (2013), suggests that learning is an active process of
constructing knowledge and understanding through experiences and
interactions with the environment. According to this theory,
technology can be used to enhance learning outcomes by providing
learners with opportunities to engage in hands-on activities and
simulations that mimic real-world experiences.
The three theories discussed in this paper provide a useful
framework for understanding the role of technology in enhancing
learning outcomes among ACLC Senior High School students. By
reducing cognitive load, facilitating collaborative learning, and
providing opportunities for hands-on learning experiences,
technology can be an effective tool for improving learning
outcomes. Understanding these theories can help educators design
technology-enhanced learning environments that are both engaging
and effective.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The research paradigm that describes the input-process-output
framework for this study is a mixed methods approach. The study
involves both quantitative and qualitative data collection and
analysis methods. The inputs include demographic data, policies,
academic performance data, and data on the benefits and challenges
of technology integration. The processes involve analyzing and
summarizing the data, conducting surveys or interviews, and
gathering data from various sources. The outputs are reports on
the demographic profile, technology integration in the curriculum,
students' perceptions of technology use, relationship between
technology integration and academic performance, and the benefits
and challenges of using technology in the learning environment,
with recommendations for improvement. The mixed methods approach
allows for a comprehensive understanding of the research questions
and provides a more complete picture of the phenomena under study.
