DLP

This lesson plan aims to teach students about graphing linear equations in two variables. The objectives are for students to determine if an ordered pair is a solution to an equation, solve systems of linear equations by graphing, and graph linear equations. The lesson contains examples of solving equations for solutions and graphing linear equations. Students will participate in think-pair-share activities, solve examples, and be given assignments to graph linear equations.

Detailed Lesson Plan

In Mathematics 8

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. Determine whether an ordered pair is a solution of an equation,
b. Solve a system of linear equations in two variable by graphing, and
c. Graph linear equation in two variables.

II. Contents

III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Introduction
a. Prayer
Please stand for the prayer. Can I
ask somebody to lead the prayer?
(The students will stand)

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit

Amen.

Our Father.

(Students pray the Our Father)

Good morning class Good morning teacher.

We are fine teacher.

How are you today?

So now, kindly pick up the pieces

(Students pick up some trash, throw it and
of papers under your chairs, throw
arrange their chairs)
it in the trash bins and arrange your
chairs properly.
Okay, you may now take your seat. Thank you teacher.

May I ask the secretary who is Nobody is absent today teacher.

absent today?

Very well!

(students will raise their hands)

b. Review
Okay, so before we proceed to our Our lesson last meeting was all about “Basic
discussion. Can somebody tell me
Idea of a Function”
what was our lesson last meeting?

Okay very good! It was all about

Basic Idea of a Function.

c. Motivation

“Think-Pair-Share”

Now class, I want you to choose

your partner and sit together with
them. Later on I will be posting
some given ordered pairs and all
you have to do is exchange each
other’s opinion regarding the
ordered pairs in which you are Ordered What I What my What we
going to plot and graph it in the Pairs thought partner will
piece of paper. After that, I will be thought share
calling some representatives to
present their answers here in front. A (-5,5)

B (-3,4)

C (1,2)

D (0,5)

E (7,-1)
(students will raise their hands)

Okay thank you. Seems you already Our topic for this morning is all about “Graphs
know how to plot, now who can tell of Linear Equations in Two Variables”.
me what is our topic for this
morning?

B. Presentation
Okay, exactly. Our new lesson for this
At the end of the lesson, the students are
morning is all about Graphs of Linear
Equations in Two Variables. But before expected to:
we discuss, let us first read our learning a. Determine whether an ordered pair
objectives for todays’ lesson. is a solution of an equation,
b. Solve a system of linear equations
in two variable by graphing, and
c. Graph linear equation in two
variables.

C. Proper Discussion

If a, b, and r are real numbers (and if a

and b are both equal to 0) then ax+by=r
(the students will listen the discussion)
is called linear equation in two
variables (the two variables are the x
and y).

The numbers a and b are called

coefficient of equation ax+by=r. the
number r is called the constant of the
equations ax+by=r. example, 10x-3y=5
is a linear equation of two variables.

For a linear equation in two variables

such as x+y=8, a pair of values of x and
y which satisfies the equation is called
solution of the equation. Therefore,
(x=1,y=), (x=2,y=6), (x=3,y=5),
(x=4,y=4) are solutions of x+y=8.
Yes, ma’am.
Okay did you understand?

Let’s have another example.

2x+3y=16
We will find the solution of this x=2 and y=4 ma’am will be the solution.
equation.
Therefore,

Okay, very good. Is there any solution Yes ma’am.

of this equation? x=5 and y=2 ma’am are also the solution of
that equation.

Very well!
Therefore, (x=2,y=4) and (x=5,y=2)
are he solution of 2x+3y=16.
Yes ma’am.

Did you understand?

So now, let’s proceed to the

graphing of linear equation in two
variables.
Ex.
a. Draw the graph of 2x+4y=16
for
-≤3x≤.
b. If A (4,b). find the value of b.

Solution:

x -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3

y 5.5 5 4.5 4 3.5 3 2.5

a. 2x+4y=16

b. 2x+4y=16

Substituting x=4 and y=b, we have

2(4)+4(b)=16
8+4b=16
4b=16-8
4b 8
=
14 4
b=2
so, 2x+4b=16
2(4)+4(2)=16
8+8=16

Therefore, x=4 and y=2 is a

solution of 2x+4y=16.

Yes, ma’am.
Did, you understand class?

D. Application

So now, same partner earlier. All you

have to do is to determine whether an
ordered pair is a solution of each
equation. And after answering, I will
call random people to answer each
item.

Direction: Determine if an ordered pair

is a solution and get at least two or
three solution of each given equation.
(students will answer the given task)
1. x+y=7
2. 4x+y=12
3. 10x-2y=10
4. 4x-y=3

E. Generalization

Using the “Minute Paper” answer the

question below.

 What is the most

important thing you have
learned during the
discussion?

None ma’am.

Any question?
F. Evaluation

Answer the following:

1. y=2x+4
(students will answer the given task)
x -1 0 1 2

2. y=2x2-4

x -2 0 2

3. a. Draw the graph of y=4x-1 for

-2≤x≤2.
b. Is the point (2,7) on the graph?
(students will copy their assignment)
If you are done answering kindly
pass, and copy your assignment.

G. Assignment

Draw the graph of each of the

following equations.

1, 2x+3y=12
2. -3x-y=8
3. 5x-6y=60
4. 5x-4y=20
5. 3x+8y=12
