vehicles
BACKGROUND
In genera, the gas evaporated from the fuel in a fuel tank
is collected in a canister mounted on the upper portion ofthe
fuel tank, and then purged to an engine imtake system 9 be
supplied to a combustion eharber of an engine for com-
bustion. However, the evaporative gas may’ flow to a fuol
inlet along a fuel injection pipe connected to the fuel tank.
‘Thus, & plastic filler neck having an evaporative gas
blocking strture is mounted at the tip o the fhe injection
Pine interconnecting the fuel inlet aod the fel tank
In this case, an air drain casing communicating with
‘ouside air is connected to the canister via a connection hose
such thatthe evaporative gas collected in the canister may be
smoothly purged to the engine intake system by engine
negative pressure
Tr reference the air drain casing is mainly mounted to
but is not Fimited to, the outer diameter parton ofthe plastic
filler acck in order o simultaneously satisy both conditions
that the ae drain casing is aot visible from the outside
‘external appearance and prevents penetration of moisture,
Toreign substances, and the ike coming out from the road
surface,
Hereinafter, an assembly structure of conventional plas
tie filler neck will be deseribed.
FIGS, 1 and 2 aro views illustrating a configuration of 3
‘conventional filler neck, in which reference numeral 10
‘designates a fel injection pipe
The fue injection pipe 10 is made ofa plastic material to
have a single layer stucture in erossseetion,
‘Ofcourse, the fuel injection pipe may be made of a plastic
material fo have a molilayer steueture in erosssection, but
it causes a significant increase in cost and weight since
processes and equipment are required to form the multilayer.
Altematively, the fhe] injection pipe may be made of a
steel material, but it causes an increase in weight and cost.
“Accordingly. the fie injection pipe 10 is made ofa plastic
material to have a multilayer stricture in cross-section and
‘an excellent evaporative gas blocking structure
IG. Lillstates a configuration in which a refueling gun
inserted from a fel inlet is mounted on the tip of the fuel
injction pipe 10, wherein afillor tube 20,2 retainer 30, 2cap
holder 40 andthe like ae sequentially assembled, and ana
«drain casing 60 is mounted on the outer diameter of the
fastening portion between the filer tbe 20 and the fuel
injection pipe 10
In this case, a mounting bracket 22 for mounting vehicle
body is Farther integrally formed onthe outer diameter ofthe
tip ofthe filler tube 20.
‘Referring FIG, 3 he rear end portion of the cap holder
440 and the front end portion of the filler tube 20 are
integrally fused to cach other by vibration fusion i the state
in which they pressed against each other,
0
o
2
Referring to FIG. 4, the ear end of the filler tube 20 is,
pressfitted othe inter diameter portion of the fuel injection
pipe 10, and an overmokded body 50 is further mounted over
the outer diameter portions ofthe filler tube 20 and the fuel
ajection pipe 10 to block a leakage of evaporative gas to the
outside.
‘Thus, the overmolded body $0 may press the fastening
portion between the filler tubo 20 and the uel injection pipe
10, to minimize a gup between the Miller tube 20 aa the fel
injection pipe 10 to block a leakage of evaporative gas to the
outside,
However, the above-mentioned conventional filer neck
has the following problems.
inst, thee isa small gap between the filler tube 20 and
the fuel injotion pipe 10 even if the overmolded body 50 is
‘mounted on the outer diameter of the fastening portion
between the filer tube 20 and the fue injection pipe 10 as
described above, Hence, evaporative gas may leak t0 the
‘outside in the direction indicated by the arow of FIG. 4
‘Furtbermore ifthe overmolded body 50 is damaged by an
‘impact in the event of collision, the gap between the filler
tube 20 and the fuel injection pipe 10 is increased, whieh
may lead to a leakage of fuel as well as a leakage of
‘evaporative gas tothe outside,
Second, the mounting bracket 22 formed on the outer
ameter of the tip ofthe lle ube 20 is easly displaced by
‘an impact in the eveat of collision, which may lead to a
Teakoge of fel as wel s a leakage oF evaporative gas to the
outside.
