Robotics

This document discusses educational robotics and provides information about robots. It defines a robot as a machine that can perform tasks automatically with speed and precision. The main components of a robot are its manipulator to perform tasks, actuators for movement, sensors to perceive the environment, a control system as the brain, and a power source. Robots can be classified based on their autonomy, task type, method of movement, and configuration. Robots are used widely in manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, military, service industries, space exploration, and research.

A robot is a machine designed to execute one or more tasks automatically with
speed and precision. They can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and can be
controlled by a computer or by a human operator.

 Manipulator: It is the main component of the robot that performs the

tasks

 Actuators: These are the components that provide the robot with
movement

 Sensors: Robots use sensors to perceive the environment and make

decisions.

 Control System: The control system is the brain of the robot. It consists
of hardware and software that processes sensor data and provides
instructions to the actuators.
 Power Source: Robots need a power source to operate, which can be an
electrical outlet, a battery, or other sources of energy.

 Human-Machine Interface: This is how the robot interacts with

humans. It can be in the form of a graphical user interface, a control panel,
or voice commands.

Robots can be classified in several ways, including by their degree of autonomy,

the type of task they perform, and their method of movement.

 Autonomy: Autonomous robots can perform tasks independently, while

semi-autonomous robots require human input.

 Task Type: This classification of robots is based on the type of task they
perform, such as industrial robots. Industrial robots are used in
manufacturing, service robots perform tasks in public spaces, and military
robots are used for military purposes.

 Method of Movement: Robots can also be classified based on their

method of movement. Some common types include wheeled robots, legged
robots, and flying robots.
 Configuration: Robots can be classified based on their configuration, or
physical arrangement.

Robots are used in a wide range of industries and environments, including:

 Manufacturing: Robots are widely used in manufacturing to automate

repetitive tasks, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. They can be found in
automotive plants, electronics factories, etc.

 Healthcare: Robots are used in healthcare for tasks such as surgery,

rehabilitation, and assisting patients with mobility.

 Agriculture: Agricultural robots are used to automate tasks such as

planting, harvesting, and monitoring crops.

 Military: Military robots are used for tasks such as bomb disposal,
reconnaissance, and ground support.

 Service: Service robots are used in public spaces and homes for tasks
such as cleaning, security, and entertainment.

 Space: Robots are used in space exploration to gather information about

other planets, moons, and other celestial bodies.

 Research: Robots are used in research to perform experiments, gather

data, and test theories.

These are just a few examples of the many places where robots are used. The use
of robots is constantly expanding as technology advances and new applications
are developed.
