1. Foreword
The instruction is used in electronic, electronic hydraulic servo and screen displayed universal
testing machine.

It supports the following types and shortened forms.


Tensile tester Electronic universal testing machine
Servo tester Electronic hydraulic servo universal testing machine
Screen displayed tester Hydraulic screen displayed universal testing machine

2. Brief Introduction
2.1. Main function
Kunlun series universal test and control software V9.0, shortened form: SmartTest. It is mainly
used in tensile, compression, bending, shearing, torsion test with metal, rubber, plastic, cement
concrete, rock, composite material and other materials for variety types of testing machines.

2.2. Operation environment


Hardware configuration: CPU: 2.0 HZ, inner storage: 2G, hard disk: 120G and upward configuration.
Operation environment: supporting XP, Win7 (32/64), Win8 (32/64) and Win10 (32/64).
Bundled software: controller is connected by USB. Leaving at least one interface for controller.

3. Installation of Software
3.1. Installation
Double click “[Link]” to prepare for installing in installation disk, the following window will
pop up, and then click “Next”.

Installation path: click “Install” and can modify the path, click “Next” to start installation, click
“Finish” to complete it.

4. Instruction of Interface
4.1. Start
A. Turn on the power of the testing machine.
B. Turn on the power of the controller.
C. Turn on the power of the computer.
D. Start the software.

4.2. Connect controller

Software automatically connects to controller, opens the log in window. It will hint failure connection
after counting down 10 seconds if it is under unusual condition.
Reasons for failure connection:
A. Power of the controller is not connected, please check it.
B. USB connecting line is loose with the controller, please unplug and insert it again.
C. Please contact the supplier if there is another problem.

4.3. Login
Start software and then select user name for logging in, input password, click “Login”. It defaults
record name and password next time if it is selected with check mark.

4.4. Default interface


Default interface is able to be set guide interface, test interface, test program selecting interface.
User can set in “manage” menu, details refer to (9.3. Preference).

4.4.1. Guide interface

Main interface includes: title column, tool column, value display column, and condition column.

Test: enter into test program selecting interface.
Program: manage all programs in software, refers to (8. Project).
Manage: set equipment, controller, software interface and other parameters, refers to (9. Manage).
Calibration/ verification: calibration of sensor for software, make value in software in accordance to real
value, refers to (7. Calibration and Verification).
Search: search test results, refers to (6.5. Search Report).
Display: set windows in current interface, refers to ([Link]. Value display column).
Language: short cut of language switching.
Exit: exit from software.

User can set displaying of channel, unit, precision, quantity of windows freely, also can right click
relative position in windows to shift them.

Set tool column:

Right click the left area of title to select channel in displayed menu, as the following picture:

4.4.2. Test select interface


Select test type in the left column, select program name in the right column, double click to enter
into test interface after selecting one of programs.

4.4.3. Test interface

Test interface includes:


A. Title column: display model of machine and name of selected program;
B. Tool column: operation and setting button in test interface;
C. Indicated value column: real time collected data;
D. Navigation column: display group number, and serial number of the current test;
E. Curve panel: draw curve and analyze result;
F. Data column: display test result and information, and setting of feature points;
G. Condition column: display the current condition.

Display the current group number and serial number, the graph before the serial number
represents the current condition.

Draw and analyze curve.
Right click on the name of the coordinate in the curve to display the name and unit of the coordinate.

Set the name of the coordinate by clicking the button in tool column at bottom of curve panel.

Other operation refers to (6.5. 2.2. Curve analyze ) and ([Link]. Operation in curve).
Modify the style and quantity of displayed curve according to set of layout, details refer to ([Link].
Layout).

5. Control Panel
Control panel is divided into test and non-test condition areas, the upper part is non-test condition
area which is used to adjust the space of machine for clamping specimen conveniently, the lower part is
test condition area which is used for test.
(Tensile tester) refers to ( 5.1. Control panel (tensile tester)).
(Servo type tester) refers to (5.2. Control panel (servo)).
(Screen displayed tester) : skips this part.

5.1.1. Operation area


Main buttons of operation area:

Progress bar of control quantity: the right-side
number is current control quantity, it changes
as dragging its block.

5.1.2. Set of control parameter


The control parameter setting is mainly to set the control speed related to the operation of the
control panel, including the control panel related to the maximum speed, the minimum speed, the rising
speed, the descending speed and the return speed, as well as the speed setting related to the speed
calibration. Click “Set” to open setting interface.

Max. value: it is set according to debugging.


Min. value: it is usually set as 0.
Speed of up: execute initial speed after clicking “Up”.
Speed of down: execute initial speed after clicking “Down”.
Speed of return: execute initial speed after clicking “Return”.
Calibration of displacement speed for crossbeam: it is the accordance for displacement speed
shifting to real control quantity for tensile tester under open loop displacement control.

5.1.3. Set of test process


Clicking “Set” button in test process interface, it will pop up set option for test process, software
defaults crossbeam displacement control and process editing. Mental tensile control includes mental
tensile type. Details refer to ([Link]. Test).

5.1.4. Set of control

Set of control interface will pop up after clicking “Set” button, as the following picture:

Deformation: modify the source of deformation, and the condition of the "Use Extensometer" button
on the test screen is changed;
Before the test: modify pre loading, automatic zero clearing and other parameters before test.
End of test: modify the condition of software judging for stop, action after test ends and other
parameters after test ends.
Curve setting: modify the curve drawn entrance value and mode of curve in test.

5.2. Control panel (servo)

5.2.1. Operation area


It is same as the (tensile tester).

5.2.2. Set of control parameter


It includes quantity of median control, max. control, initial control value, backout control value, up
control, and down control. Click “Set” in display area to set.

Control quantity of median position: this value can’t modify, set in ([Link]. Main controller).
Max. control quantity: this value can’t modify, set in ([Link]. Main controller).
Initial control quantity: the initial quantity is performed when clicking “Test”.
Backout control quantity: it is used to reduce initial control quantity when reaching to entrance force,
and control mode is changed from open to close loop to perfect link.
Up control quantity: the initial quantity is performed when clicking “Up”.
Down control quantity: the initial quantity is performed when clicking “Down”.

5.2.3. Set of control mode


It is same as the (tensile tester).

5.2.4. Set of control


It refers to control panel of (tensile tester).

6. Test
6.1. Brief introduction
There are multiple kinds of test programs, the following will take “tensile with mental” as an
example.

6.2. Test process


6.2.1. Select program
Select test type in the left area of the interface, and select test in the right area. Details refer to
(4.4.2. Test select interface).

6.2.2. New record


Click “New” in tool column after entering into test, input relative information in the poped up window
for new, then click “Enter”.

6.2.3. Preparation before test


Adjust the crossbeam to a proper position.
Click “Reset all” button.
Clamp specimen.
Clamp extensometer (optional).
Execute test.

6.2.4. Test process


Click “Test” when preparation is completed.
Enter into pre-loading according to set mode, start loading when it meets the requirements of loading.

6.2.5. Test finish


Test is automatically finished, saves data and calculates result when it meets the requirements of

finish. Or user can click “Stop” to stop the test. Details refer to ([Link].Test completed).

6.2.6. Operation after testing


Take down specimen after test is completed.
Measure the parameter in “parameter after test”, input it in relative editing box, and press “enter” on
keyboard to make it effective.
Check test result.

6.3. Test continued


6.3.1. Single test is completed

Test will turn to next after reaching to time interval if “continuous test” in “control set” is selected
with check mark. Continuous test refers to ([Link].Test completed).

[Link]. Discontinuous test


Click “Test” to start next test after last test is finished if “continuous test” in “set control” is not
selected check mark. Continuous test refers to ([Link].Test completed).

6.3.2. Group test is finished


[Link]. Non-simplify mode
Clicking “Test” again will pop up a dialog frame after a group of test number is finished, select “Add”
to add specimens for test, or click “New” to start a new group of test.

Clicking “Test” again will pop up “New” window after completing a group of test, please refer to
(6.2.2. New record) for new test.

Conditions above refer to (9.3. Preference).

6.4. Print report


Click “Print report” in tool column to output default edition report, also can select to print or save
copy.

6.5. Search Report


Click “Query” in tool column to check history report, re-analyze, print and other functions, as the
following picture:

A: Tool column;
B: Data of specimen selecting area;
C: Search condition selecting area;
D: Test parameter displayed area;

All found number of group is listed in the data of selecting area, click “+” before number of group to
check all number in this group. Clicking number of group will display “Group parameter”, clicking
number will display “Test parameter”.

Test parameter: parameter before test and result.


Parameter of group: test environment, standard and others.
Statistic items: select with check mark number of group, marked group will displayed in statistic
result.
Feature point: select physical feature point in curve.

6.5.1. Search
Software default displays test of the current month, search according to number of group (fuzzy
query), tester (fuzzy query), range of date, as the following picture:

6.5.2. Analyze
Click “Analyze” in tool column to enter into the interface, select number, check and re-analyze data
are available in select area. It is made up of the following parts:

A: Select area of data;


B: Test curve;
C: Display area of parameter;

Listed parameter of feature points is able to be selected with check mark for displaying in curve.

“Parameter” and “curve” are displayed as clicking number. Click tool at bottom of curve if you need
to modify the display or shift position of feature points in the curve. They are set feature point, set
coordinate, saved as picture, recalculated, modify mode, confirm modified, unmodified, follow-up, as
the following picture:

Set feature point: setting coordinate, name, and symbol of points are displayed in curve or not.

Set coordinate: set channel of X axis and Y axis coordinate and their units.
Saved as picture: save image of curve as picture.
Modify mode: modify feature point after selected (only modify selected), details refer to ([Link].
Modify feature point).
Confirm modified: save modification of feature points in this serial number.
Unmodified: return to initial or last modification.
Follow-up: move mouse to check data of point selected in curve.

A. Zoom in: hold the left mouse button down until selected (drag from top left to lower right corner).
B. Return: hold the left mouse button down until selected (drag from lower right to left top corner).
C. Zoom out: move the mouse to zoomed out position, operated by the wheel of mouse.
D. Translation: hold the right button of mouse down, drag to left or right.
E. Self-adaption: double click on curve to automatically set coordinate.
F. Indicated value of point: pressing down the “follow-up” button, it will display data of point in curve as
the mouse moves onto the point.

A. Click “modify mode” of tool column at bottom of curve.
B. Move the mouse to tag of feature point, hold the left button down (color of tag turn to red), move the
mouse to correct position, lease the left button of mouse (roughly adjusting by the “up” and “down” key
or fine adjusting by the “right” and “left” key on the keyboard).
C. Click “Modified”to save result.
D. Click “Recalculate” to recover feature point if it is modified by mistake.

6.5.3. Print report/ Excel report


It will print report of selected with check mark group number according to specified template after
clicking “Print” in tool column. Click drop down arrow at the right side to select report template if there
are multiple reports.

6.5.4. Set report


Modify default report by guiding, including format, parameter, curve and others (it modifies only for
default report, new report and other report refer to (8.2.5. Report).

6.5.5. Set Excel


Please refer to (8.2.5. Report) for modifying format, parameter, curve and others.

6.5.6. Delete

Clicking “delete” will delete group of data or some piece of data if group number or some number is
selected which are able to multiple selected. Clicking “Delete” will delete all selected with check mark
item (if some item is selected with check mark and selected at the same time, it will delete the selected
with check mark ones).

6.5.7. Trash
Deleted data is stored in recycle bin, data deleted by mistake can be recovered when needed.

7. Calibration and Verification


Please check all items and parameters carefully in process of calibration and verification, in order
to make sure the data are correct as calibration and verification are about precision, control and other
important information. Click “calibration” or “verification” button in the interface as the following picture:

7.1. Preparation before calibration


Check channel of connect line for sensor.
Check manual box setting is correct or not, especially low speed of it, details refer to ([Link]. Main
controller).
Place calibration apparatus.
Click “calibration” button in guiding interface.

7.2. Select calibrated sensor


7.2.1. Select sensor

Select calibrated sensor at the left side of calibration interface (make sure the range of real
assembled sensor is accordance to the range of sensor in software).

7.2.2. Control parameter


(Tensile tester) refers to ([Link]. Control parameter (tensile tester)).
(Servo tester) refers to ([Link]. Control parameter (servo tester)).
(Screen displayed tester) skips.

★ Control function: whether the software loading control is needed or not;


★ Loading mode: choose automatic loading or manual loading;
Manual: loading at the open displacement speed;
Auto: loading at the close speed, be able to set parameter of rapid speed, slow speed, and lead;
★ Speed shift: select automatic or manual shift:
Manual: manual shift loading speed to make precise and rapid calibration.
Auto: automatic shift rapid speed and slow speed according to lead.
★ Rapid speed: loading speed before reaching to lead.
★ Slow speed: loading speed after reaching to lead.
★ Type and value of lead:
Absolute lead: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - lead).
Relative lead: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - target value *lead%).
Lead of time: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - lead*rapid speed).
★ Entry value of curve: start to draw curve as the indicating value reaches to the setting value (start
close loop control under automatic control mode).
★ Max. speed : max. speed of open-loop displacement in manual loading.

Manual: manual shift loading speed to make precise and rapid calibration.
Auto: automatic shift rapid speed and slow speed according to lead.
★ Rapid speed: loading speed before reaching to lead.
★ Slow speed: loading speed after reaching to lead.
★ Type and value of lead:
Absolute lead: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - lead).
Relative lead: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - target value *lead%).
Lead of time: formula: speed shifting condition=(target value - lead*rapid speed).
★ Entry value of curve: start to draw curve as the indicating value reaches to the setting value (start
close loop control under automatic control mode).

7.3. Calibration
7.3.1. Set of calibration list
Set direction, quantity of segment, times, target value, content for calibration and other parameter
are in list at the right part of calibration interface.

7.3.2. Manual rapid and slow calibration (semi-automatic)


It is suitable for initial calibration of load and displacement.

[Link]. Zero clearing of the indicating value.


[Link]. It will run open loop at pre-loading open loop mode after clicking “run”.
[Link]. It start close loop control as the indicating value exceedes the entry value of curve.
[Link]. Shifting to slow speed is available when the value of calibrating apparatus approaches to the
target value.
[Link]. Click “collecting point” button or press the “space” key when the indicating value of apparatus
reaches to the target vale. Click “undo” button if operated by mistake.
[Link]. Collect all target points to complete calibration for once, hinting frame will pop up after all times
of calibration is completed, click “enter” to pop up “Correction calibration”, please refer to (7.4.
Correction calibration).
[Link]. Please repeat step 1 to 6 if times of calibration is more than twice.
[Link]. It will start repeal stroke when reaching to last grade of the target value for relative times if
measure repeal is selected with check mark.

7.3.3. Automatic rapid and slow speed calibration (full automatic)


It is suitable for calibration and verification of loading and displacement.

[Link]. Zero clearing of the indicating value.


[Link]. It will run open loop at pre-loading open loop mode after clicking “run”.
[Link]. It start close loop control as the indicating value exceedes the entry value of curve.
[Link]. The software automatically shifts to slow speed when the indicating value reaches to the
speed shifting condition.
[Link]. Click “collecting point” button or press “space” key when the indicating value of apparatus
reaches to the target vale, software will automatically shift to rapid speed. Click “undo” button if
operated by mistake.
[Link]. Collect all target points to complete calibration for once, hinting frame will pop up after all times
of calibration is completed, click “enter” to pop up “Correction calibration”, please refer to (7.4.
Correction calibration).

> ” to add it to selected parameter. Select one item in selected parameter, and then click “ << ” to

Select one item in “Selected parameters”, its name, symbol, and displayed or not are able to be
modified. Click ↑ or ↓ to adjust position of it.

Method is used for feature point, attention: parameter in this item is not necessary to be modified.

★ Judging method for yield:


Start point of yield: software will judge when the load exceeds the seting value.
Sensitive of yield: there are slope changes as elastic segment turns to yield segment. The range is
between 0.1 and 1, the larger, the more sensitive.
Quantity of successive judged points: it become effective as exceeding the start point of yield. Its
range is between is 2 and 20, the smaller, the more sensitive.

★ Specific elastic elongation strength:


Graphic method: it is a calculate method used in distinct elastic segment.
Step-wise approximation method, hysteresis loop method: it is a calculate method used in not distinct
segment.

★ Modulus of elasticity
Points P1 and P2 (in load-deformation curve) should be taken from elastic segment, which adjust
at proper position according to the percentage of curve, whose positions are related to calculation of
modulus of elasticity.

★ Metal stretching: special control mode for method A and B of metal stretching test standard.
Selected mode: after shifting strain control (method A), stress control (method B) and nominal strain
control (displacement control), relative control mode and speed will change.

Advanced options: click ”advanced options” to enter into advanced options, be able to set switching
parameter from elastic phase to yield phase, and from yield stage to intensive stage.

Continuous test: time interval between two times of continuous test is setting time in group test.
Test finish condition: different tests aer with different conditions.
Action after test is completed: machine will automatically stop, return or abort and then return after
one time test is completed.

Once setting the starting point of the drawing curve, it will start drawing when the load is larger than
the load at the starting point of drawing.

Up and down limit of column width: set proper width for displayed parameter. If the width is 0, it will

Set of statistics: statistics information of batch of parameters.
Report mode: there are continuous and layers modes, continuous means parameters ordering in a
line without linefeed, layer mode is used when parameters are too many.
Dynamic adding line: result in report will be automatically accumulated according to the real number
(it is not effective in layer report mode).
Specific items: result is specific, output result is limited by setting item (it is not effective if selecting
dynamic adding line).
Interval: interval number in batch printing.

★ Linking method between software and Excel:


Select necessary cell for result from “Excel select area”, and then click its field in “Software editing
area”, linking is completed.
For example: please look at the following picture, select ① in “Excel select area”, and then
double click ② in “Software edit area”. Re-select after deleting if selecting by mistake.

Start simple mode or not: it will pop up a new window as click “New” after batch of test is completed
under simple mode. If not start simple mode, it will pop up a dialog box to ask to add test to this group or
a new group of test.

Parameters are able to be modified, but model, structure, and type of space for equipment are not
able to be modified.

Parameters of controller include parameter for control, channel and sensor. Click “Controller” to
