Final Report Iec-10

The document describes an experiment on applying nodal analysis to solve an AC circuit with R, L, and C components. Students are asked to calculate node voltages theoretically and measure them practically using an oscilloscope. They determine branch currents and calculate percentage errors between theoretical and measured values. The aim is to study nodal analysis in a combined RLC circuit under AC conditions. Simulation and experimental results are presented along with discussions of challenges and conclusions.

Title: Study of ‘Nodal Analysis’ in R-L-C combination circuit in AC

Theory and Methodology:

Nodal analysis serves as a mathematical approach for determining voltage distribution in electrical networks,
particularly in AC circuits. Also referred to as the node-voltage method, it involves calculating voltages at
various circuit nodes with respect to a reference point, usually the ground. This laboratory experiment
focuses on applying nodal analysis to solve AC circuits, measuring node voltages that were previously
computed and simulated using this method. Nodal analysis proves especially valuable in handling circuits
with multiple sources or intricate combinations. The AC node-voltage method shares its foundation with the
DC node-voltage method, both relying on Kirchhoff's current law at each node. The process involves
obtaining independent equations for each node and then solving them concurrently. It's essential to note that
when performing AC node-voltage analysis, equations are expressed and solved using phasors and phasor
algebra, involving complex numbers. The principles for setting up and executing AC node-voltage analysis
align with those used in DC node-voltage analysis.
Using the Nodal analysis theoretically, calculate the node voltages of VA, VB and VC from the circuit diagram
shown in Figure 1. Assume C1 = 10 µF, C2 =4.7 F, R1 = R2 = R3= R4= 100 Ω, L1 = 6.3 mH, f =1 KHz,
Supply voltage, V1 = 10 VPk with 0º phase shift. Find the practical node voltage of VA, VB and VC using the
Oscilloscope. Express the results in phasor form (i.e., magnitude and angle). Using the calculated data,
determine the current in each branch using node-voltage. Complete Data Table 1 to understand the deviation
or error. Fig 1 is showing the circuit diagram to analyze the nodal analysis.

Discussion and Calculation:

The aim of the experiment was to determine the Study of ‘Nodal Analysis’ in R-L-C
combination circuit in AC. In this experiment the voltage and current in a RLC AC circuit
has been calculated through nodal analysis method. By applying nodal analysis method,
currents of different paths such as IVB-A, IVB-C, IVA-C, IVA-G and IVC-G have been found. The
measurement in the multisim has also been performed. However, the values of current and
voltage are different from the experimental values. The differences occur due to the
mechanical error on oscilloscope. It happened because the waves in oscilloscope was
unstable. As a result, it was hard to measure all the values perfectly during the experiment.
Besides, it was difficult to calculate the values of voltage and current accurately. Although
the error was about 69.22% for IvB-A and 4.42% for IvB-C, which indicates the values of
experimental data were slightly different from the practical one. Though the experiment was
difficult to analysis due to mechanical error but in the experiment the outputs of the circuit
were measured and identified.
