Instruction manual
Thank you for choosing Bassface. From the simplest connector to our top of the range
amplifier - every element of these products has been designed to give you the best possible
performance for your money. Please take the time to read these instructions carefully as
they contain useful and important information. Modern high power audio systems can
generate voltages at the speaker similar to mains operated equipment – for some reason
everyone seems to ignore or forget this. Your wiring needs to be good to be safe. Please
remember this and take your time. Please exercise caution when setting volume levels –
powerful audio equipment can easily produce enough sound to permanently damage
hearing. Remember that audio competitors use ear protection when operating and
competing. Do remember that incorrect installation or abuse is not covered under warranty
– please make sure that your installation and any partnered product is suitable and
compatible. If you are unsure please seek qualified advice before proceeding. Always use
appropriate hand and eye protection when working with tools, and always work within your
capabilties as an installer. We offer a 12 month manufacturer warranty via your distributor
or retailer. Please retain your purchase receipt as proof of purchase. Please note that
Bassface operates a policy of continuous product development and we reserve the right to
change specification without prior notice. You can follow our process on our website by
reviewing the version history information.
Please note that we sometimes include information inside these manuals which we feel is of
potential value to the client on related subjects such as conversion charts, capacitance
values or wiring diagrams. Please feel free to copy any of this information since it is in the
public domain.
The BASS8.1, BASS10.1 and BASS12.1 are high performance single voice coil subwoofers
intended for use in a car audio environment. The woofers have a nominal impedance of 4
ohms and are supplied fitted in pre built enclosure with a standard Positive/Negative
Speaker cable connection.
It is worth taking a moment to be realistic about your installation. The type of car you are
installing to will influence the result you get from fitting this woofer. For example, if you
have a hatchback with a simple cardboard parcel shelf then you will find that a single 8” or
10" woofer will perform very well, offering a solid and punchy sound that will surprise you
with its output. Try installing this into a saloon car with a sealed boot and solid steel parcel
shelf, with a fuel tank behind the back seat. In this case, even a pair of 15” woofers will not
give you the output that you expect without making the installation work in a special way.
Aim to ensure both the sub cone and rear port are unobstructed – horizontal mounting in
the boot against the rear seats often offers the easiest and safest solutions.
The unit will need strapping in securely as is light and rounded, it can and will move around
quite a lot in your boot if not. Try to use strong ties to hold the unit in place – Velcro is
typically not suitable as it can tear away under hard braking. For sideways installation,
against the back seats in a hatch back, a few strips of Velcro should be sufficient. Most
other applications will require decent strapping. An inexpensive and convenient solution is
bungees. You can pick these up at most motor factors and hardware stores. Even the pound
shop!
When you come to set the amplifier crossover settings we recommend the use of a 40Hz
subsonic setting and a 100Hz low pass filter. This will give you an excellent starting point
for your listening. With this size of woofer it would not be unreasonable to look at crossover
frequencies as high as 150Hz, depending on the partnering equipment you are using and
the installation type and location.
Running your amplifier with the level set too high can very easily lead to a distorted (or
“clipped”) signal being fed into the subwoofer. This will destroy your woofer very quickly,
because the voice coil will become heat-saturated to the point of failure.
The other common mistake is not to listen to the subwoofer in isolation. When you set the
system up it is best to take some time to disconnect all the other speakers in the car and to
listen to just the woofer. Although it will sound strange and there may be some car
vibration it will be very obvious as you alter the levels and increase the pressure when you
have taken it a step too far. A distorting woofer can sometimes make a slapping or rattling
sound, or sometimes the bass goes fuzzy during distortion. Either way that noise is killing
your equipment, and you need to recognize those settings and attenuate the levels or
crossovers so that during playback normally those conditions are not created. Once you
bring in the other noisy speakers in your system it is all too easy to mask over the sound of
a distressed woofer and you will be lining up to join the other people who have not heeded
the warning signs in our “warranty rejected” queue! Don’t be that guy.
Do remember that these units need to be driven from an external amplifier. You can't hook
them up to your TV, mobile phone (I know, I know, but yes it's been asked!), or other high
level piece of low power apparatus. These are PASSIVE tubes that need to be POWERED
externally from a proper external amplifier!

applicazioni richiedono decente reggiatura. Una soluzione economica e comoda è
ammortizzatori ausiliari.
