Lesson Title:
Learning the share of power between the three branches of government!
Objectives:
Students will be able to…Restate the key points that each branch of government are involved in a
short essay with three different body paragraphs for each branch.
Students will be able to… Distinguish the difference in jobs between each brand of government
and how the power is shared equally.
State Standards: Standard 2: Demonstrate an understanding of the structure and functions of
government at all levels in the United States.
USG.2.IN: Analyze how power and responsibility are distributed, shared, and limited in the
American constitutional government.
USG.2.ER: Explain the authority, organization, purposes, and responsibilities of the three
branches of government as enumerated in Articles I–III in the Constitution.
Context:
This lesson is an eleventh-grade history lesson about the three branches of government. I
will be teaching this lesson so that the students learn why and how power is distributed and
shared throughout the American government. Before this lesson, the students will have
learned about the philosophers who came together to construct the Declaration of
Independence. The students will also have already learned the Articles of Confederation
and why it led to the Constitutional Convention. This will lead to the students’ new lesson
plan where they learn why the three branches of government were created. From there the
students will learn all three branches in deep detail and learn the federal, state, and local
government including what impact the three branches have on them. The lesson after this
will include a larger overview of the parts of the U.S. Constitution which is divided into 9
parts, the preamble, 7 articles, and the amendments. I am teaching in this order so that
when the next unit arrives my students will have knowledge about the three branches and
can understand them when we move to the full Constitution. Overall, this lesson will bring
the students a greater understanding of the American Political system and government
Data: How will students be grouped in this lesson? What hypothetical data will these groupings
be based on? How will data be collected in this lesson for future groupings and teaching?
The students will be divided into three different groups. The groups will be based on a
Google survey from the previous on how well the students had understood the unit of the
Constitutional Convention and why it took place. This online Google survey will serve as a
basis for me to make the correct groups where each student is placed with another with the
same knowledge. I will make the groups by how well the students answered the survey. The
students with less understanding will be placed together, the students with a decent
understanding will be placed together, and the students will have a full understanding of
the previous unit will be placed together. After the lesson, the students will complete a
similar Google survey on their computers which will include their understanding, how well
the groups worked together, and how they liked the lesson plan. This will help the students
think back about what they learned while also giving me future advice for lessons coming
up and how I can change this current lesson to be more instructional.

The students who place in the top 3 will receive a lollipop. The students will all use their
computers to play this game while looking up at the smartboards for the questions. This game
will be used so that I can see which students are still struggling with the topic while also seeing
which students fully understand. After the game has ended the students will redirect their
computers to a Final Google survey where they will fill out how the stations helped them and if
they have any advice for the future. https://6fqtsn2zzu9.typeform.com/to/WbzeRaaF

This piece of multimedia is a game that teachers create that will help students memorize and
learn what is being taught. Student learning should incorporate fun and competitive activities to
keep the kids more involved in what they are learning. This game allows the students to show off
how well they learned the lesson as they compete against each other to be the highest on the
leaderboards. This supports student learning, my standards, and objectives because the game
involves everything that was taught. The game connects to the standard USG.2.ER of learning
the authority, organization, purposes, and responsibilities of the three branches of government.
This game would hold a 4-5 in the LORI criteria. This multimedia game allows students to go at
their own pace while learning the lesson criteria. This game provides a good amount of time to
answer questions while also being able to play as many times as the students want.
