Donner une information / un conseil


Should, had better et ought to sont utilisés pour donner une information ou exprimer un
conseil.

Should et ought to ont à peu près la même signification, mais ought to ne s’utilise
généralement pas dans les phrases affirmatives et négatives.

Had better a un sens plus fort car la personne qui l’utilise insiste sur le fait qu’il y aura des
conséquences positives et négatives si vous ignorez le conseil donné.

Ces verbes n’utilisent aucun auxiliaire à la forme négative :


Shouldn’t, oughtn’t to, had better not.
