Direction: Analyze and research the different eras in information systems. Then, answer each of the following items in at least five (5)
sentences. (3 items x 20 points)
1. In your opinion, explain why information systems were centralized and used solely with governance and management
during the First Era.
Based on what I found in itchronicles website, centralizing computer resources was important for management and efficiency
during the First Era of information systems, especially with the implementation of pricey mainframe technologies like the IBM
360. With a single vendor technology, enterprises were able to efficiently manage resources, simplify maintenance, and
standardize their IT infrastructure. By focusing efforts and specialized knowledge, it also improved security, data integrity, and
expertise development. The efficient use of resources was an important factor that drove businesses to choose centralization in the
management of their information systems.
2. From your perspective, rationalize why there was a need to make information systems and technology available to the
public during the Second and Fourth Eras.
From my perspective, giving people access to computers became significant in the Second Era since cheaper and more compact
microprocessors and personal computers were produced, making computing power more prevalent and affordable. This enabled
businesses to provide their employees with computers that were too expensive before. Furthermore, fast networks helped connect
diverse components of a corporation in the Fourth Era, making it easier to manage and access information and enhancing how
organizations ran. These advancements significantly transformed how businesses functioned, showcasing the pivotal role of
accessible computing in shaping technological eras.
3. With cloud computing ushering in the Fifth Era, justify the need to access information systems anytime and anywhere
with any device in this era.
Cloud computing has transformed how we do things in the digital age. Accessing work, projects, or apps from several devices,
regardless of location, is extremely liberating. It's like carrying a portable office, increasing productivity and flexibility in our
daily lives. Personally, the Cloud has been a lifesaver, eliminating the fear of losing important documents and allowing quick
access to all of my stored information. In short, the Cloud has incorporated ease and accessibility into our technologically driven
tasks.
