Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Poetry

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Observe the correct pitch levels (high, medium, low) when reading lines of
poetry, sample sentences and paragraphs (EN7OL-I-b1.14.2)

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


a. identify the correct pitch levels in reading poetry;
b. Appreciate the value of poetry;
c. Recite the poem with the proper pitch levels.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: The Sampaguita by: Natividad Marquez
B. Reference: Grade 7 English Learning Material
C. Materials: laptop, projector/TV, powerpoint presentation, visual aids, flashcards,
cartolina/manila paper, marker, etc.

III. PROCEDURE

Preliminary Activities: (2 mins.)

 Ask the “Officer of the Day” to lead the prayer.


 Check the attendance.
 Let the students read the classroom rules ‘SMILE’.

A. Review: (3 mins.)

 THE LUCKY ONES


 Instruct students to check underneath the armchair of their seats.
 Let them get the paper pasted and check for a question on it.
 Tell them that whoever got the question will have the freedom to answer the
question or pass it to others.
 Tell them to notice the color of the papers they got from their chairs to identify
their respective groups.
 Identify the 3 Groups: Red, Blue, Yellow.

B. Motivation: (2 mins.)

 FILL ME OUT!
 Ask the student to complete the poem through filling in the blanks.

C. Presentation
 Let them try to guess the new lesson.

 READ & PICK (10 mins.)
 Group students in 3 based on the colors of papers they got.
 Let them form a circle.
 Tell them to choose a leader and a secretary in their group.
 Unlock the difficult words first.

 Tell them to pick the words and place them beside their meaning.

3 ABSTRACTION (5 mins.)

 Give additional inputs about the activity.

 Discuss the lesson (with PPT).
 Give few examples.

 Use a randomizer in calling names.

4 APPLICATION

 Group students according to their talents, wants, and interests.

GROUP 1 - The Poetics


Compose a short poem about Family.

GROUP 2 – The Artists


Write a slogan about the reading text you’ve read.

GROUP 3 – The Singers


Compose a yell encouraging everyone to love their family.

 Present the rubrics.


 Give the students 5 minutes to prepare the task.

Mechanics:
1. For every question, there must be a player from each group who will stand to
answer.
2. The players are given flashcards of the letters, A & B.
3. They will just show the letter of their answer after the question is shown.
4. The first player who could raise a correct answer will get the point.
5. For every point, the duck of the team will move forward.
6. The duck that could reach the finish line first will be declared as the winner.

IV. EVALUATION (5 mins.)

Directions: Read properly the poem and pay attention and answer the questions base on
your understanding in the poem.
