NUR 330 Population and Community Health

Instructions for Documentation of Practicum Experiences


For each practicum experience, please document the PCGs and/or CCPOs that were the focus of
the experience (these are found in the course syllabus), and provide a detailed description of the
experience that clearly illustrates each of the objectives. You may use a narrative or chart form,
such as the ones below.

Objective: CCPO 4 Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors as a member of the healthcare team.
Description: I attended a meeting of the Ethics Board with my preceptor. Following the
meeting we discussed an ethical scenario unfolding at the agency. This was an
eye-opening experience because there is not a clear solution to the problem. We
explored the nurses role in ensuring that care is delivered in a professional way
within an ethical framework.

Description: 13 y.o. with Dog Bite with STAPH r/o Osteomyelitis (completely through ankle)
-Cleanse and irrigate
-IV fluids
-Antibiotics
-Wound Care
Lori and I had a huge conversation this day on communication and how proper communication is
effective in the treatment of this population. Lori also discussed the many conflicts of how age
interferes with communication within this population. We also thoroughly discussed the proper
protocol on how to care for a dog bite, how to clean it and how to properly report a dog bite.

Lori and I discussed a lot of barriers that children face on this day of observation. The Post
COVID patient was a very anxious teen who was dealing with some mental health issues. So, we
discussed a lot about mental health and how these concerns are taken into consideration when it
comes to adequate care.

Optiflow 12L 45%
88-90% O2 saturation during sleep
Shallow breathing
Albuterol q3 hrs.
This deal we discussed the importance of advocacy for our patients, this patient needed a lot of
respiratory support and we needed to be the ones to get the proper treatment for her. This patient
was struggling to get the adequate air intake and we had to keep up with respiratory to make sure
she was getting her albuterol neb treatments every 3 hours and that her optiflow was set to keep
her O2 sats up.
