INSTRUCTION: ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

Question 1

Based on Design of Experiment (DOE) technique, below data collected from the experiment
conducted with THREE (3) different variables and TWO (2) level. The response or the
output from the experiment are listed in the below table. By using DOE technique and
Minitab software, analyse the data given in Table 1, 2 and 3 to find all the answers in below
questions.

Table 1: Factors and Level

Factor Low High
A 0.80 1.20
B 125 200
C 275 325

Table 2: Response or Output for Replicate 1

Run Output
1 550
2 669
3 633
4 642
5 1037
6 749
7 1075
8 729

Table 3: Response or Output for Replicate 2

Run Output
9 604
10 650
11 601
12 635
13 1052
14 868
15 1063
16 860
a) Type of Design of Experiment (number of factor and replication)

Full Factorial Design

Factors: 3 Base Design: 3, 8

Runs: 16 Replicates: 2
Blocks: 1 Center pts (total): 0

b) Tabulate the DOE Coded Table

c) Estimate the largest largest positive and negative factor effects.

Largest positive and largest negative factor effect is determined by P-value <0.005. Based on table above,
the largest positive is 306.1 in Term C while largest negative is -153.6 at Term A*C
d) Write down regression model with R square for predicting based on the results of this
experiment.

e) Analyse the main effect plots and interaction plot.

Based on table above, we can see that A is negative main effect while B and C is positive main
effect plot. C is the most significant since it has steep slope.
For interaction plot, we can see that only A*B show interaction since factor A and B intercept to each other.
For A*C and B*C there is no interaction. But, if we further the experiment, somehow factor A*C will intercept to
each other if Factor A decreasing and Factor C increasing.
f) Determine the parameter level that recommend to use.

Factor Low High

A 0.80 1.20
B 125 200
C 275 325

From cube plot, we identify that the highest value is 1069.0. From that, we can see that the
plot is at A -1, B 1 and C 1. Based on factor, A -1 is 0.80, B 1 is 200 and C1 325. The most
recommended parameter level is A-1,B 1,C 1 as is show the highest plot value.
