4.4 Abstraction
English sentences may present themselves in
varying patterns. These patterns refer to the
arrangements of the elements of a sentence. It
starts from the most basic to the most complex.
There are five basic sentence patterns in English.

Subject + Linking Verb + Complement (S – LV – C)


Subject + Intransitive Verb ( S – IV )
Subject + Transitive Verb + Direct Object ( S – TV –
DO )
Subject + Transitive Verb + Indirect Object + Direct
Object ( S – TV – IO – DO )
Subject + Transitive Verb + Direct Object + Object
Complement (S – TV – DO – OC)

In this game, students create their sentences using
the picture flashed on the LCD Projector and identify
the sentence pattern.
