INTERNET OF THINGS
The Internet of Things (IOT) describes the network of physical objects “things” that
are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting
and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. These devices range
from ordinary household objects to sophisticated industrial tools.

BLOCK DIAGRAM:
A

ARCHITECTURE:

Sensors:

● Sensors are the physical information collection sites which basically are devices that sense
and record physical information and further is given to processors to compute the data
accordingly.
● Different types of sensors are manufactured and fabricated for modern day solutions.

Processors:

● Processors are the brain of the IoT system. Their main function is to process the data
captured by the sensors and process them so as to extract the valuable data from the
enormous amount of raw data collected. In a word, we can say that it gives intelligence to
the data.
A

Processors mostly work on a real-time basis and can be easily controlled by applications. These
are also responsible for securing the data – that is performing encryption and decryption of data.
● Embedded hardware devices, microcontroller, etc are the ones that process the data because
they have processors attached to it.

Gateways:

● Gateways are responsible for routing the processed data and send it to proper locations for
its (data) proper utilization.
● In other words, we can say that gateway helps in to and fro communication of the data.
● It provides network connectivity to the data. Network connectivity is essential for any IoT
system to communicate.
● LAN, WAN, PAN, etc are examples of network gateways.

Applications:

● Applications form another end of an IoT system. Applications are essential for proper
utilization of all the data collected.
● These cloud-based applications which are responsible for rendering the effective meaning
to the data collected. Applications are controlled by users and are a delivery point of
particular services.
● Examples of applications are home automation apps, security systems, industrial control
hub, etc.
The extensive set of applications for IoT devices] is often divided into consumer, commercial, industrial,
and infrastructure spaces.

Consumer applications:
A growing portion of IoT devices are created for consumer use, including connected
vehicles, home automation, wearable technology, connected health, and appliances with
remote monitoring capabilities.

Smart home:
A

IoT devices are a part of the larger concept of home automation, which can include lighting,
heating and air conditioning, media and security systems and camera systems. Long-term
benefits could include energy savings by automatically ensuring lights and electronics are
turned off or by making the residents in the home aware of usage.
Elder care:
One key application of a smart home is to provide assistance for those with disabilities and
elderly individuals. These home systems use assistive technology to accommodate an owner's
specific disabilities.]Voice control can assist users with sight and mobility limitations while alert
systems can be connected directly to cochlear implants worn by hearing- impaired users.

Medical and healthcare:

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is an application of the IoT for medical and health
related purposes, data collection and analysis for research, and monitoring. The IoMT has been
referenced as "Smart Healthcare" ,as the technology for creating a digitized healthcare system,
connecting available medical resources and healthcare services.

Advances in plastic and fabric electronics fabrication methods have enabled ultra-low cost,
use-and-throw IoMT sensors. These sensors, along with the required RFID electronics, can be
fabricated on paper or e-textiles for wireless powered disposable sensing devices.
Applications have been established for point-of-care medical diagnostics, where portability and low
system-complexity is essential.

2.2 BACK END

Python:
What is Python?
Python is a popular programming language. It was created by Guido van Rossum, and released in 1991. It is
used for:
▪ web development (server-side),
▪ software development,
▪ mathematics,
▪ system scripting.

What can Python do?

▪ Python can be used on a server to create web applications.
▪ Python can be used alongside software to create workflows.
▪ Python can connect to database systems. It can also read and modify files. ▪ Python can be used to
handle big data and perform complex mathematics. ▪ Python can be used for rapid prototyping, or for
production-ready software development.

Example:

>>>name=”Jarvis”

>>>greeting=”Hello”

>>>print(greeting + name + “have a nice day.”)

Output: Hello Jarvis have a nice day.

FLASK:
Flask is a micro web framework written in Python. It is classified as a micro framework
because it does not require particular tools or libraries. It has no database abstraction layer, form
validation, or any other components where pre-existing third-party libraries provide common functions.
However, Flask supports extensions that can add application features as if they were implemented in Flask
itself. Extensions exist for object- relational mappers, form validation, upload handling, various open
authentication technologies and several common framework related tools.

Example:

From flask import Flask,

render_template app = Flask( name )

@app.route("/") def

hello():

return render_template('index.html') #HTML file for index.html has to be created if name ==" main

":
A

app.run(debug=True) flask provides you with tools, libraries and technologies that allow you to build a

web application. This web application can be some web pages, a blog, a wiki or go as big as a webbased

calendar application or a commercial website.

SQLite3:
SQL ( Structured Query Language)is a domain-specific language used in programming and
designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS), or for stream
processing in a relational data stream management system (RDSMS). It is particularly useful in handling
structured data, i.e. data incorporating relations among entities and variables.

SQL offers two main advantages over older read–write APIs such as ISAM or VSAM. Firstly, it
introduced the concept of accessing many records with one single command. Secondly, it eliminates the
need to specify how to reach a record, e.g. with or without an index

Syntax:
SQL syntax comprises of -

Database Tables

A database most often contains one or more tables. Each table is identified by a name (e.g.
"Customers" or "Orders"). Tables contain records (rows) with data.

SQL Statements

Most of the actions you need to perform on a database are done with SQL statements.

SQL Commands:
SELECT - extracts data from a database

UPDATE - updates data in a database

DELETE - deletes data from a database

INSERT INTO - inserts new data into a database

CREATE DATABASE - creates a new database

ALTER DATABASE - modifies a database

CREATE TABLE - creates a new table

ALTER TABLE - modifies a table

DROP TABLE - deletes a table

CREATE INDEX - creates an index (search key)

DROP INDEX - deletes an index

Smart Irrigation
The SMART irrigation system enhances the performance and is an emerging technique that automates irrigation
systems and conserves water usage. This technique adjusts irrigation based on actual soil and weather conditions,
therefore it allows farmers to meet their demand with a new adopted technique which conserves the water for
irrigation process shows the SMART irrigation system includes data acquisition (sensor), irrigation
control, wireless communication, data processing and fault detection. Each of these components can be used
in IoT devices.

✓ Internet of Things (IoT), smartphone tools, and sensors are technologies that further enable farmers to
know the exact status of their field, including soil temperature, amount of water required, weather
conditions, and much more.
✓ IoT can be thought of as an extension of the current internet to all devices that can communicate with
electronic equipment and are linked to the internet, making devices user friendly and easy to handle.
✓ Correspondingly, IoT is linked to automation of all areas of agriculture and farming processes in order to
make the entire process more productive and efficient .
✓ The use of sensors is also important for farmers to better understand their crops, reduce the environmental
impacts and conserve resources.
✓ Therefore by the usage of SMART agriculture, farmers are given the opportunity to produce yields while
using fewer resources, such as fertilizers, water, and seeds .
A

✓ This paper aims to highlight the contribution of SMART irrigation using Internet of Things (IoT)
and sensory systems with SDGs.
✓ This review will assist researchers and farmers to better understand irrigation techniques and provide an
adequate approach would be sufficient to carry out irrigation related activities.

IoT and smart systems used in irrigation

✓ With regards to the implementation of IoT devices, the used communication technologies could be
considered as a vital and imperative point to attain successful operations.
✓ The communication technologies could further be regarded as being used in accordance with the
environment where they will be applied.
✓ The main technologies that are used in IoT for irrigation could be classified into two categories. One could
be regarded as the devices that function as nodes and lead to forward or transmit small data amount at short
distances along with having low consumption of energy.
✓ Consequently, the other devices are the ones that have the ability to transmit huge amounts of data over
long distances, having high-energy consumption.
✓ There are various wireless standards that could be used in the communication of IoT devices and they could
generally be classified between devices that communicate at long or short distance.

✓ One of the most used and effective communication technologies has been identified to be Wi-Fi due to the
possible accessibility for it.
✓ It has further been identified that the current low-cost devices for IoT mostly lead to support Wi-Fi, and
while it has its limitations (area coverage and reach), it is regarded an effective overall method .
CONCLUSION

Smart Agriculture with IoT is changing the future of farming for the better. With more
accurate data and a more connected system, farmers are able to make better, more
informed decisions about their crops, which in turn leads to a better yield and less
waste. Not to mention, with the world's population only getting bigger, it's more
important than ever to have a system in place that can sustain our g rowing food needs.
Smart agriculture systems can be vulnerable to cyberattacks, so it is important to make
sure your system is secure and protected against threats. And even if your system is
secure, you still need to keep an eye out for potential data breaches or other malicious
attacks.

Finally, there's the issue of privacy. Smart agriculture systems can collect a lot of
personal data, so it is important to ensure that this data is being handled responsibly and
treated with respect. Transparency here is the key to make sure you know who has access
to the data and how it's being used or stored.
