COC 3: Setup Computer Server

 Configuring Server and Client PC


Server Configuration.
Changing IP Address

> Start
> Control Panel
> Network and Internet
> Network Sharing Center
> Change adapter Settings
>Right click
>Properties
>Select Internet Protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4)
>Properties Class C
IP Address: 192.168.9.14
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0(if none leave it blank)
Default Gateway: 192.168.9.254 (If router available)
>Uncheck IPv6
>Ok

Changing Computer Name


>Start
>Right Click to My Computer
>Properties
>Change Settings
>Change
>Change the Computer Name: “Server”
>restart Computer

A. Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) Installation

Add Roles

Check Active Directory Domain Services
Next
Add Required Features
Next
Install
Close

Open Run type” dcpromo.exe”


Add required features
Next
Next
Create a new forest Root Domain
Name of your forest Root Domain
e.g. CSS.edu

Forest function level
-window server 2008 R2

Confirmation password: E.g. CSS1234@

Reboot (Check on completion to reboot)

Note: To Remove ADDS go to dcpromo.exe

B. Configuration DNS reverse lookup
>Start
-Administrative tool
-DNS
>SERVER (Computer Name)
>Under Reverse Lookup >Right click
Create “New Zone”
Next (Primary zone) > Next>
Select IPv4
Next
-Network ID 192.168.9
-Select Reverse Lookup zone name
9.168.192 in-addr.arpa
Next
Next (Allow only secure dynamic updates…)
Finish
9.168.192 in-addr.arpa (Open)
Right Click
New Pointer (PTR)
IP Host 192.168.9.14
Server.IETI.edu (Host name) Full Computer
Name: SERVER.CSS.edu
Ok
Right Click “Server”
Launch nslookup
(Note: you should see the ip address and the
Computer name in nslookup
Ex. Default server: server.css.edu
Address :192.168.9.14

C. Installing DHCP Server


+Server manager
-Roles
-Add Roles
Next
Select
DHCP Server
Next > Next> Next
Change 127.0.0.1 into 192.168.9.14 (Preferred DNS ip)
Click validate button
Next > Next >
Add
Scope Name: CSS Networking
Starting: 192.168.9.15
Ending: 192.168.9.254
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default: 192.168.9.15 (if router is available)
(if none leave it blank)
Ok
Next >
Disable DHCP 6 (username: CSS/Administrator
Next> Next>
Install (Print, email or save info)
Close
(Double check Preferred DNS at Network adaptor
Via ncpa.cpl > Properties IPV4 version
Change 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.9.14)
+Server manager
+DHCP Servers
+Server.CSS.edu
+IPv4
+Scope [10.0.0.0] CSS Networking
 Address Leases
(To check go to Client PC: Disable and Enable
Network Adapter >Refresh Server Address Leases)
It will appear on screen.
E.g. CSS-PC.CSS.edu

CLient Domain

JOINING CLIENT PC TO DOMAIN


-Right Click “My Computer” then Properties
- Change the PC name: Client
Joining in Domain:CSS.edu
Enter the username and password
“Welcome to the CSS.edu domain”
Ok
Reboot (Everytime you join restart Client PC) - CSS.edu

CRL+Alt+ DELETE to logon


Press Any Key (No password has been madefor Client PC)

D. Installing File Services


Server manager Note: To Demote File Services:
-Roles Go to Share & Storage Management
-Add Roles
Next
Select File Services
Next > Next >
Select
 File Server (Automatic)
 File Server Resource Manager
 Window Search Services
Next>
Select
Drive C:
Next > Next >
Select C:
>Install (Wait to install/Configure)
Open Drive C:
Create a folder name “Student list”
Inside the Student list create a folder named “Students
Right Click > Properties > Sharing tab >Advance Sharing
Advance Setting
Check shared the folder
Permission
Remove Everyone
Add
Advanced
Find now
Select Domain users
Ok
Full Control (Check)
Apply > Ok>
Caching
Select second option (No files or programs……)
Ok > OK>
Close (Copy Network path:\\SERVER\Students)
FILE SCREENING IN SHARED FOLDER
Start
-Administrative tools
-File Service Resource manager
(Double Click File Sharing Management)
Create new (Create File Screen)
Browse your shared folder >students > OK
Choose Define custom file screen properties
Custom Properties
Select
- Audio and Video Files
- Executable Files
(To Block /Filtering those files above)
Ok > Create
Select save the custom file screen without
Creating a template
Ok>

E. Create OU and User Account


Start
Administrative Tools
Active Directory Users and Computer
- CSS.edu
Right Click > New> Organizational Unit
(Uncheck protect containe..)
Name of “Student” (as Domain user)
Ok
Create OU (Organizational Unit) Users
Start
Administrative Tools
Active Directory users and Computer
Student>right click> new user
Create a user in student folder Create New>user
User – Fill up the following information
User Logon (e.g. jerry16)
Next
Password (e.g. @dmin1234)
(Check: *user cannot change password
*password never expires)
Next > Finish

FOLDER REDIRECTION
Start
Administrative tools
Group Policy Management
Select forest CSS.edu
Domain (Double Click)
+Domains
+CSS.edu
Right Click on “student” folder then create
a GPO in this domain and link it there
Name it “Folder redirection of documents
and Desktop”
Ok
Open “student” folder
Right Click on “Folder redirection of document and desktop”
Enforced
Right Click again “Folder redirection of document and desktop”
Edit
Under “User Configuration”
+Policies
+Window Settings
Open “Folder Redirection”
Choose “Desktop” (E.g Desktop, Documents Music…)
Righ Click “Desktop”
Properties
Under “Setting:” > Rooth path: \\SERVER\student
Select “Basic –Redirect everyones folder to same loc”
Under “Setings” tab
Uncheck “Grant the user exclusive rights to desktop”
Leave the folder in the new location when polices are
Removed. (Policy Removal)
Apply > Yes > Ok > Ok

Same process in “Document” and “Picture”


Go to windows icon, search “gpupdate” then enter.
Restart Client PC
(To Check proceed to a Client PC:
> Switch to user Other user > Enter username & password)
Client PC - Create new text on desktop
Server PC – view Drive C: student list>student
See text/word created

PRINTER SHARING (PRINTER DEPLOYMENT)


Step 1. (Install Printer in Server PC)
Start
Devices and Printers
Add Printer (upper left side)
Add local Printer (type of printer to install)
Next
“Epson LX-300” printer model
Next > Next>
Install
Share this Printer…….
Next > Next>
Finish

Step 2. INSTALLING PRINTER AND DOCUMENT SERVICE ROLE


Go to Administrative Tools
Server manager
Add Roles > Next
Printer and Document Services
Next> Next>
Printer Server
Next
Install
Close

Step3: Go to Server Manager


+ Features
+ Group Policy Management
+ Forest: CSS.edu
+Domains
+CSS.edu
Select the folder name “Student”
Right Click- Create a GPO in the domain and link it here
Type the name “Printer Deployment” then Ok
Select the created GPO name “Printer Deployment”
Right Click
Select “Enforced”
Right Click again “Printer Deployment”
Select “Edit”
Under the “User Configuration”
+Policies
+Windows Setting
Scripts
Right Click “Logon” then Properties>Add a Script name
Click Add then Browse
Path: My Computer –
Local C: - Windows- System32
Find “Pushprinterconnection.exe then enter
Script Parameter = -log
Ok
Apply
Ok

Go to windows search button,


Type”gpupdate” then enter. (Updating Policy succeeded)

Step 4: Go to Administrative Tools


Select Printer management
+Printer Servers
+Server local (CSS.edu)
Printers
Right Click on Printer (e.g. Epzon LX300)
Deploy with Group Policy
Lookin: “CSS.edu”
Tab “All”
Printer Deployment
Ok
The users should be selected (The user that
this GPO applies to user)
Add
Ok > Ok > Ok
Right Click “Epzon LX300” then Properties
Sharing tab
Click “list in the directory” (Choose)
Apply > Ok

Step 5. Client PC Configuration


(The username logged-in should be the user
Create from the GPO)
(IETI)
Create a text document
Ctrl + P (to Print)
Find Printer
Browse
Entire Directory
Select Domain “CSS”
Select Ok

Find Now
Search Results:
EPSON LX-300
Right Click then Select
Print
(Note: make sure that there is a text inside
The notepad before printing).

(Printer Job should be seen in Server PC)


To check: Start > Devices and Printer
Right Click “Epson L300”
See what’s printing
REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION
(to be done in both Client and Server)

Client PC and Server Configuration

>My Computer >Right Click > Properties


>”Remote Settings” tab
>Select allow connections only from computers….
>Click “Select Users”
>Add Administrator , Client & Domain users in the list
> Ok >Ok > Ok >Apply

Server Configuration
Start
Administrative Tools
Local Security Policy
+ Local policies
User Right Assignment
Allow Log on through Remote Desktop Services
Right Click then Properties
Click “Administrator” then Remove
Apply
Add user or Group > Advance > Find Now
Select Administrator (Built in)
Ok
Select Client Name (E.g. jerry16)
Apply > Ok

Note: Always remember the host name or root name of Client PC.

TESTING REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION

-- Client PC to Server PC
Open run then type “mstsc” (shortcut for Remote Desktop Connection)
Type the IP address of server e.g.192.168.9.14 or Computer Full name ( e.g Server.css.edu)
Clcik Option
Type “Administrator” then Type the password
Clcik “Connect”
Click Yes

-- Server PC to Client PC
Open run then type “mstsc” (shortcut for
Remote Desktop Connection)
Type the IP address of server e.g.10.0.0.2 or
Computer Full name (e.g jerry16)
Click Option
Type “jerry16” then Type the password
Click “Connect”
Click Yes

Demote all Roles you installed in server
Apply 5’s
