    2 Are you a football fan looking for something less rough and a little more ruff? Then watch
    your TV screen on February 1. The 11th annual Puppy Bowl airs on Animal Plane as a
    cuddly alternative to the Super Bowl. "People love cute animals, and it doesn't get any
    cuter than Puppy Bowl!" executive producer Melinda Toporoff told TFK (1).

    The first Puppy Bowl aired on February 6, 2005. It was created as a fun alternative to the
    3 Super Bowl, which attracts millions of viewers every year. However, Puppy Bowl has
    become an annual charity event. Each year, the program promotes animal adoption from
    local shelters. “All of the puppies and kittens that were ever in Puppy Bowl have been
    adopted to loving families,” says Toporoff. “We hope to continue that tradition this year
    with a new set of adorable animals that are ready to play in homes across the nation.”

    This year, there will be 55 animal shelter puppies at play for Team Ruff and Team Fluff.
    4 The dogs will compete for the title of MVP (Most Valuable Puppy). Last year Ginger, a
    12-week-old English Sheepdog mix, got that honorable title.

    The rules of the game are simple. The puppies must grab a toy and run it to the end
    5 zone to make a touchdown. Puppy penalties are part of the play. Puppy Bowl “rufferee”
    Dan Schachner will make sure both Team Ruff and Team Fluff are keeping it cute.

    Puppy Bowl isn’t just for people and puppies. Goat cheerleaders will be there to support
    6 the dogs. Reporter "Meep the Bird" will be in the arena to tweet live updates throughout
    the big game. And the annual Kitty Halftime Show will feature new feline phenomenon
    Katty Furry.
